Mods, this may not fit here, but I want it to be seen, this is something everyone needs to know.
START RANT
The alt. went on my jetta. 67k miles and it went, thats ok, after all it is an alternator. I have dealt with the BMW side of Niello and the parts guys are really helpful and nice there so the wife and I made a decision to go to Niello vdub against our better judgement. I didn't want to replace myself due to the huge amount of work it would be. All the small shops in the area were booked up for 2+ weeks so I figured screw it, I will drop the 600 bucks to get it fixed and warranted (we are moving back to GA so it would carry over). When we drop the car off the service advisor tells us that the 90 amp is becoming obsolete and we should replace it with a 120 amp we can do a 90amp but there is no telling how long it will last. Cool he will call us when he finds out more. We leave the car and he calls us the next day. He says the 120 is on back order and it will take 10 days to get it. We are given the option to go with a 90 amp, but it is more expensive and again he suggests the 120amp. Ok that is about the time frame from the smaller shops so we will stick with Niello. He also tells my girl that the TOTAL bill wil be 408 dollars including the diagnostic. She tells me this and I make her call back thinking no way, he must have mis-quoted. again he says 408. So awesome! 10 days pass no phone call. I go by and drop in on them, the advisor tells us that there is now a bulletin saying no 90 amp whatsoever and the 120 must be used.... so we have to wait, there is no answer on when the new 120amp will arrive.
Now I am getting a little po'd. I call around and find out that there are at least 16+ 120 amp remans in Cali and all they would have to do is order a remanned one. We basically spent 30minutes calling sister dealerships to find out who had what and their names. My girl calls back and this time askes for the service manager. She tells the service manager this and asks why we weren't given this option. She also gives him a list of dealerships, phone numbers , and parts guys names to call. He asks the service advisor while we are on the phone and he lies saying we were given that option and that we didn't want it. He also lies stating he never quoted us 408 to put in the new alt..... so we came up with that number out of thin air. Still no answer on the 120 amp. The service manager tells us there is no such bulletin stating the 90amp was a no go, and he can install a new 90amp for 600. Now I get on the phone and tell him to replace the alt with a 90amp, at the 408 we were quoted or we will tow the car and notify VWNA and post the situation on VW vortex. I also explain to him that we had parts in 30 minutes. Why has it taken them 10+ days to still not have a resolution???? He tells us their customer service is perfect and that there were a few hiccups along the way and he was sorry. The service manager made the deal and it sounds like Niello ate the part cost. We never tried to "scam" anyone and are both honest car owners.
I have stopped going to any Niello branch and am traveling to roseville to pick up my misc. parts. It sux, but I believe that the VW division of Niello underquoted us to get our business and baited/ switched when we bacame desperate. The fact that we could have stuck a remanned alt in there the FIRST day and were not told about that option is unacceptable. I called WVNA before this was cleared up to file a complaint and the called me back to tell me they were still researching the matter and would get back to me by next Friday! Are you kidding me?
So to sum up an alternator took 14 days to replace. We paid what we were quoted, but did not get the part we requested due to being short a car for two weeks, we were almost forced to buy the smaller amperage alternator!
End rant.
What do you guys think?
PS I have used no names in this. Although I am convinced the service advisor played us, I refuse to us his name. Niello is the name that was tarnished in this case.
