oil pressure, oil sender, oil guage etc. this is the thread

ok so i have bin looking around for thread that talk about oil pressure sender and the guage.

The OEM oil pressure sender that screws into the Engine Block.
looks like this. (88+ 325i's) M20's and can be found at bavauto.com

it is found here. on the passenger side of the engine block. picture is taken lookin UP from UNDER the engine.

now if someone has pictures or Setup information on how to put in a Guage, or the Adapters they used , that would be Great! thanks. GL to the

As of today when my searching was boredom driven i came accross this little dodad on ebay. it appears to explain alot of what confused me. so it might help you too. its pritty self explanetory but if you dont get it..just read. lol

I tapped and drilled the hollow bolt that holds the oil cooler adapter onto the block - sensor is screwed in there. the temp sensor is in the oil pan.

you can see the pressure sensor here:

    on the bottom..

just an idea - no need to mess with the stock sensor or wiring. you do have to remove the bolt to do it though.

      is that a VDO sensor/sender

also if i remove the bolt..what do i put in there as substitute, that is where most people are having the problem.

        yeah, VDO

what do you mean substitute? you use the bolt - you just drill and tap a hole on the end of it, and thread the sensor there. the bolt is hollow.

I'm not a fan of having oil pressure sensors cantilevered out off the block. I've seen one or two break off at the track. I used an adapter from BavAuto that goes where the oil pressure switch mounts and provides NPT threads. My oil pressure sensor is mounted on the rear of the subframe arm and connected to the adapter via hard copper line.

I've toyed around with the idea of adding a low pressure switch via a tee at the sensor to replace the OE switch, but I haven't yet done that. VDO does offer some dual pressure sensors that include a low pressure switch, but not in the best range for an M20 Engine. A 0-80psi or 0-100psi gauge is what you want.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

KO Performance has a nice oil filter adapter that has three ports on it so you can add oil pressure, temp and then an oil line port if you decide to go FI later.

I can take pictures of mine if you like.
