    F20C powered E36

    e36 318is with a F20C out of a S2000

cool swap but waste of money IMO. for what they probably spent on the swap they could've built a M50 and put it in. or put in a S50 or S52.

    what are you guy's opinion?

heres a few translations some guy posted on the youtube comment (i dont know how accurate the translation is though since i dont speak japanese):

    - The swap can be done for about 1,800,000 yen (almost CAN$18,000) including the parts.

    - The drift king guy (forgot his name) said it's amazingly fast and he highly recommends it / worh the money! Real fun to drive.

    - The owner had a 4 cyl bmw that was just too slow so he decided to swap with the 2sk engine. He is now a legit tuner (IMPACT) that swaps various motors in bmw. He liked the swap into the 4 cyl bmw as it has the HACHIROKU (ae86) feel. I am assuming light car with peppy engine?

Good engine, great tranny, but it would have been cooler in e30 imho

I love how the engine just revs and pulls forever. Tranny is so sick also, almost no play in it and short shifting.

Total waste, that engine even looks disgusting inside the bay. Did you take a look at the ricer muffler?? lol Its got the JDM angle. Does the hood close without hitting the valve cover because it looks like it will.

-But they put that great engine/tranny into a heavy (er) chassis (than both an e30 or s2k). I'm sure the Honda would still be faster/handle better/be better looking imo.

Yeah thats really a waste and stupid. I can think of 10 billion other things I could spend 15k on a BMW instead of a s2k engine. FI from the m50 for half of that 15k probably would have made more power than the s2k, hell if you really wanted a 4cyl you could have put a s14 in....

Surprised at the comments. An F20 is substantially lighter than an M42, and probably saves well over 100 pounds of weight over the front subframe compared to an M/S50. That coupled with 9000 useable revs must be a hoot to drive!

It would be alot cooler if the hood fit.

Give the guys credit for going where no man dares to venture. Gotta love the RPM gauge running sinking to the bottom!

Definantly would agree with this. Other than the lothargicness of the engine around town, there are few cars I enjoy driving more than an S2000. The fact that Honda also built a mass production engine that turns 9k is amazing as well. Limited production engines are one thing, but just about any kid with good credit can drive an S2000 now and they still do run! I don't know that I would have put that engine in an E36, but an old MGB or Triumph would be a serious machine! Owned an E30 M3 as well, and I can tell you no S14 without $30k invested in the engine has the feel/fun factor of a VTec Honda engine!

FWIW - F20C is about 220lbs dry with no accessories based on a quick search of HondaTech. That would make it only slightly less than BMW's engine choices.

Yeah, the F20C is a fucking sick motor (alright, no torque can get a little old)...but I wouldn't want it in an e36. What's the point, to have a backseat? That's literally the only downside to an S2000.

I took mine to 9k every single day for a year, and it had perfect 220 compression across all 4 cylinders when I sold it. Fantastic powerplant.

                            I miss it.

Now that's the shit. Wouldn't really want that motor in anything else, personally.
