I need a go anywhere vehicle..

So I am a landscape photographer, and I need a vehicle that can go anywhere.

Here is an example of what I am looking for. I will be picking up and driving from Southern California to Alaska with a few cases, tripods, and small soft bags. I will need to sleep in the car , wagon or SUV is a must.

I need high clearance , (AWD or 4x4.)

reliable. ( I will not tolerate a break down)
it has to start every time with no problems.

interior. ( I will be spending many hours inside of this car so it has to comfortable and ergonomic)

    long range , efficient, quiet.

Here is what I have in mind . and my budget for the vehicle is roughly 14k.

    Honda Pilot. (First Generation )

    Toyota 4runner. (Third Generation)

Volvo XC 70 ( Second Generation)

    Volvo XC 90

The swedish have the ideal interior (heated ergonomic leather)

    Saab 9-5 wagon (First Generation)

I'd go with the 4 runner.

It is the perfect choice, but my other prospect cars have such nicer interiors.

Do you really want a nice interior for a working vehicle though?

Imports all the way for long range off road vehicles.

4runner is your best bet. Not my idea of a rugged trail goer, but it will hold its own. I'd have a d90 defender <3. Of course land rovers aren't very reliable....

I'd go with a well sorted Jeep ZJ with the 4.0 and keep the remaining 10k.

Jeep. Or rover disco/II. If you are willing to put the money in it too be reliable

edit: thaoe/yukon built before 2007. Easy to fix when they do break, Parts a cheap compared to Japan/Euro counterparts, Will run badly longer than most things will run at all, get decent economy, High teens is not uncommon 30 GALLON FUEL TANK STOCK in the 95-00 anyway to get you way into the back country and back out with out carrying lots go jerry cans. Lots of after market support to make it a little better to go anywhere, lots of room for dog, gear cases and still have room to sleep in, and comfortable nearly car like ride. Will go many places you really shouldn't take them even in stock from.

I am going to say Tahoe/Yukon. You can even find a Nice 97-00 in really nice shape with 120k ish miles on them that need a little basic maintenance for sub 5k. That leaves you a lot room for up grades in shocks, tires and so on. Or find your self a 2 door they are a bit shorter and basically a renamed legendary K5 Blazer.

What about a Nissan pathfinder? Had a 95 that never once broke down. Sold it a few years back and the lady still drives it. Rust is about the only issue but it's been through a lot of nyc winters.

Go with a Cherokee, that's what I want as soon as my car sells. I'd also say wrangler but sleeping in one would not be fun.

Land Cruiser LX450. Solid axles, inline 6, reasonably comfortable and will go pretty much where you point it, especially if you add e lockers. The damn things will run forever and the last one I had would get high teens on the highway. Not exactly efficient but 6 or 8 grand will buy a lot of gas.

                            X5 diesel???

great on the highway, and would actually surprise you off road.
