Talk to me about seatac/tacoma/federal way

    Continuation of this thread: http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/show...46#post2161046

Thinking of moving to around the PNW - I'm trying to narrow down places to scope out soon.

What can you tell me about each city?

    Seatac
    Tacoma
    Federal way

Federal Way is nothing special. Neither is Sea Tac besides being close to the Air Port. In general, none of the above are upstanding places to live. The Tacoma area has some nice parts and some seriously shady parts.

Depends what you're looking for, George.

I grew up in Federal Way and my parents still live there. Honestly, the city is going down hill. It is full of strip malls and about 20 minutes from anywhere you'd ever want to be. I would not buy in FW.

      SeaTac, similar to FW.

Of these 3, I'd definitely go with Tacoma. Good area, relaxed... There are a lot of different "pockets" of neighborhoods, so you should be able to find something that fits your style. As a whole, it tends to be a little more granola than other parts of WA, but not in an annoying bad way. Kinda like mini-Seattle with a side of Portland thrown in.

This part on Tacoma really sums up what I was trying to illustrate in far better ways.

          Sea Tac has cheap hookers.

I would pick a small apartment in Kirkland over a house in Tacoma.

          West Seattle.
          Ballard.
          Green Lake.
          Kirkland.

West Seattle's pretty nifty in certain areas. Alki is a bit trendy but I wont lie, I loved living two blocks from the "beach".

He's learning Seattle geography from watching COPS. There's tons of cool little neighborhoods that won't break the bank.

I won't ever be commuting - thank god. Not during the busiest hours anyways.

Honestly, Tacoma is pretty nice. Most people who talk about it haven't lived here for 18 years. The only thing is where, personally I love the north end. If you have any questions let me know.

I'm just trying to get a feeling for the different areas. Where crack-ville is, where yuppie-ville is. I'm looking at both houses, condos and apartments.

Right now I'm moving things around so I can get up there sooner. There a few places I want to look at. If I knew were I wanted to be, I'd be there! ;)

Imma say this loud and clear: Tacomas north end is #2, Gig Harbor is #1 of all the puget sound region, unlesss you have fucking PILES of money.

Maybe Graham if you like "country"

Auburn is pretty sweet too...but like Monroe? Fuck me with a stick, what a shithole, even when clean and nice. Issaquah is very cool, especially downtown-ish, Sammamish is awesome, but too damn much money. Kirkland, Redmond, Totem Lake, on the crappier side Bellevue...nah, no thanks. If you are poor and have to get to the Eastside, I will take Renton over Federal Way, any damn day.

BTW: I have lived in ALL of those places mentioned except Federal Way and Graham...but I spent a BUNCH of time there.

Yeah, 2 years in Puget Sound, but I been around.
