ok, just to add some controversy here: buy a vizio
i had a 47" lcd 1080p 120hz unit from vizio for the past 4 years, then i sold it to a friend (who loves it). i replaced it with a 47" led-lcd 1080p 240hz vizio about a month ago, and i am very pleased with both of them.
both of the tvs are super-clear, very vivid picture, great for watching tv, and even better for playing video games.
the built in speakers are not great, but with a flat panel tv, its hard to get good sound out of such small speakers. i have a home theater system for sound, so that doesn't bother me.Originally posted by BillBraskyThat's like Vlad challenging Chip Foose to a car painting contest.2007 CVPI, stock and slowOriginally posted by acolella76i'm pretty sure 'Phillis' is short for syphilis

Don't buy a Vizio, I have seen several of them die. And Vizio won't repair them.

720p above 42" will limit resolution
its not bad, it just ain't great
the larger screens will emphasize anything fuzzy and some standard def will be unwatchable IMHO
i have both and older Sony 32" 720p which is fantastic for everyday viewing, and a 65" for the movie stuff, 1080p, Onkyo AV amp which unconverts to 1080p and anything under 720p is terrible, and 720p is just ok
if you need an everyday TV, get a 32" 720p (they're cheap) and you'll be happy for a long time without spending lots of $“There is nothing government can give you that it hasn’t taken from you in the first place”

Look for a Mistubishi DLP, you can get them CHEAP!
DLP picture quality is good, and if you aren't going to hang the TV off the wall, the entertainment center still takes the same footprint on the ground.
We replaced my 4 year old 50" Samsung DLP, with a Mitsu 65" DLP last fall. $800 bucks for 1080p and big.Need parts now? Need them cheap? steve@blunttech.com

I've had my Vizio for almost 4 years now, zero issue with it.

Walk into any retail store with an analog HD or ATSC display wall (most are ATSC, I've set up a few), and the Vizios are ALWAYS slower than the rest. Horribly annoying if you try to have the same show on in two different rooms at the same time.
That alone is reason enough for me to not want one.
I don't even hold the default video settings against them - the settings that make everyone look like snookie - because many mfgs of good tvs do that too. I like to set mine in either movie or pro mode, so the colors aren't over saturated.

There is so much bullshit surrounding plasma sets. They the best overall specifications! Why would I want to pay 3x more for a tv that is 4x slower, can't be viewed at wide angles, and look dull? I didn't $800 from tigerdirect.com bought me a LG 55" no tax no shipping 1080 perfection. The only problem now is that I want a bigger set.i'lldoitforacaravanComment

Try and bump that up to 500 and find a nice Samsung. I know right now I can get a 32" samsung 1080 for 450.00 at SEARS. And honestly Samsung is the best TV on the market.
ALSO, with gaming you need to make sure there is a good response time for gaming. Or else you are going to get lag and have to deal with getting out gunned. But if you are not a CRAZY online gamer you will not have to worry.
P.S. STAY AWAY from plasma for gaming.~ Puch Cafe. ~ Do business? feedback ~ Check out my leather company ~

Response time is so damn slow for gaming. Brother bought one this year, played GOW2 on it and we took it back the next morning. Exchanged it for a 40" 6500 Series LED ;) The LED is insanely amazing at gaming EVEN being a 40". I personally am buying a Asus VE276Q Black 27" to replace my 27" flat rear projection Panasonic. I am purely a pro level gamer so I sit about 3' away fro the screen. Response time over pixels lol. 100,000:1 contrast ratio. 2ms (GTG) quick response time help eliminate ghosting and tracers for more fluid video playback.~ Puch Cafe. ~ Do business? feedback ~ Check out my leather company ~
