USed Euro Ellips with or without Motors?

Just Picked up a set of Hella Euro Ellips off of Ebay for $102. They look like they have the motorized adjuster on them what is the overall opinion on what to do with these things. If I do delete the motors what do I put in there places?

    Pics.

I have searched but found mixed and very old reviews.

Thanks in advance for all input.

I have yet to find a set of the adjusting headlights that work. I don't even know anybody that accually knows how they work... Most people just remove them.

If you remove the big adjuster thing, just add another one of those manual adjusters on there.

Then send me those hydraulic headlight adjuster things. I'm trying to figure out how to install them into my car.

those adjusters that he has are dead. there is a metal tit that is usually hanging off, and they are always broken off when people yank the hoses, instead of cutting the hoses. the headlight adjusters work just fine, as long as the hoses havent been damaged, there is fliud in them.

as far as your lights go, see if they will adjust to a good spot for you with those adjusters on them, if they will, leave em. but most of them that i have come across here are usually frozen up(as far as the hand adjuster part is concerned.)

You cant refill the hydraylic adjustment mechanism. Once the hose has been damaged or loose, it's dead and only solution is complete new adjustment mechanism.

The scwitch you see at lower dash panel on drivers side is actualy a small manual pump which operates those hydraylic "motors" on lights. The motors mount to place of one original adjuster.

There is no vacuum or electronic involved(unless you count the scwitch light :) ).

I believe that retrofit is very possible, but am not sure of all gadgets and gizmos involved.

Why can't you refill the fluid?
If you buy a new adjustment mechanism, how do you fill it up then?
What type of fluid does it use?

I'ts completely closed system, it comes filled from factory, you can't disassemble it. The whole package must be istalled as one piece("pump", "motors" and hoses).

It's some sort of oil, I never have opened e30 system but i have installed several same type adjusters to russian VAZ cars, the oil is very thin and smells the same as "mountain oil" used in old compasses.

Thanks for all of the input. Does anyone have the part number or a spare set of manual adjusters they want to sell? I just want to try and get the parts together before the lights arrive from Germany.

well, i have 6 adjusters and a switch coming in the mail. i am pretty sure they are also cut. i will see if i can find a way to fix it and i will post here.

two reasons why i think it can be fixed: 1) its hydraulic. i should be able to repair the lines and fill with fluid. there has to be a reservoir in the switch somewhere. i'll take it apart and see. 2) i can't imagine how it could be installed without taking it apart. there just isn't a hole in the firewall big enough to fit either the adjuster or the switch.

i'm not sure what mountain oil is, but here in the usa, we used to fill compasses with kerosene.
