    Transmission brace???

    Hi guys,
I am almost ready to mount the s50 into my e30 m3. One thing I am having trouble with is the e30 m3 transmission brace doesn't seem to fit at all with the e36 m3 transmission. I have searched for this and can't find anything that sais I shouldn't be using the stock e30 transmission brace???? Was the transmission brace in the e30 m3 different? I think I'm going crazy! If anybody has run into this please let me know.

    Thanks,
    Ryan

ryan - the e30 m3 and 325's have different parts. the m3 has an aluminum trans support, hte 325 has a stamped steel one. cheers, jason

I have the ZF transmission for the swap and I've heard that you have to fab up a cusom brace for the ZF tanny to work? Does anybody know if I can use a stock part so that I don'thave to fab up a custom brace? does anybody know if the stock e36 tranny brace for a ZF transmission will work in an with the s50 swap in an e30 m3???? I know that people use the getrag tranny with the stock e36 trans brace but why is the ZF trans so different???? Thanks for any help!!!

nope. just use the e30 325 tranny brace. will work with the e36 325/316 getrag or the e36m3 zf. if your using the zf, dont forget the zf shift carrier, shift linkage.

custom e30 325 bracket only needed for the e30 getrag.
          cheers, jason

What exactly needs to be done to the bracket to run the E30 tranny with a 24v swap?

I haven't done it myself but some say just run a motor mount on the drivers side for the tranny.

Trent, i think is the person you want to talk to.

the e30 getrag mounts at a 10deg +/- different angle. i kept the body/support mounting points and changed the trans/support mounting points. plasma cutter, welder. moved the passenger side mounting point down about 3/4" and move the other up. i looked for pics but couldnt find any. do a search, theres a lot of good info out there.

i suppose you could try this, however.....you want to keep the transmission ouput "in line" with the diff. if the trans output is not in line (or raised) it will cause undue stress on the driveshaft.

                cheers, jason

I wouldn't try this, its too easy to make a bracket. I made a bracket on my last swap and used a zf on my m3.

But, they say it works, and this is r3v.

wait a minute. you brought it up.

if its not a viable option, dont bring it up.

                    cheers, jason

Its not a matter of me not using it, its options available to others. Its like some perfer e30 m3 5 lug, some will run with e36 suspension. Same deal.

                      Its options and opinions.

                      cheers, sean

I'll probably end up giving the motor mount thing a whirl, see how it works. If not I'll just make something.

Let us know what you think about these options when you test 'em out.

For my ZF tranny which of the following numbers do I need? Also will the e30 m3 shifter work with the ZF trans? or do I need an e36 m3 shifter as well?

                            Thanks,

You'll need 1, 2, 3, 7, 9, (4) of 10 and (2) of 11, 12, 15. The stock E36 M3 shifter SUCKS. Get an MZ4 or MZ3 shift lever and bend it. You'll need the rubber boot from the E30 (part number 8 in the diagram), NOT the E36. The E36 rubber boot is too big, as I found out.
