And maybe because this world is so fucked up that maybe, just maybe people want to know or think there is a reason for it all. You're right it all may be a bunch of bullshit and when we're dead and gone, that's it. So be it. Until then, all you're doing is looking like an ignorant brain-washed asshole.
    Pot calling the kettle black.

Dude, you have been indoctrinated to believe that there is a bearded man that lives in the sky that has a list of 10 things you cannot do, that answers prayers of billions of people, and hypocritically judges people that do the same types of things that he himself does.

I have formed my own opinions based on all sorts of arguments and evidence supporting all different types of views. Your opinions on the other hand, aren't your own.

So tell me, who's the ignorant brain washed asshole?

It was at this time that I also started taking University Philosophy courses which in turn led me to realize how completely superior reason is to faith.

Do you know what faith is? It is belief without reason. Now tell me, do you really think it is a good thing to believe something without any reason or evidence just for the sake of it? What is the point? What is the point in believing that there is a man living in the sky who answers prayer, punishes people, lays waste to entire cities but "loves" everybody at the same time? It is just so ridiculous I cannot even comprehend why anybody would choose to believe this crap. I cannot understand why people choose to believe that the Earth is only 5000 years old and that people were created as opposed to a geologic and evolutionary scientific view of the universe based on hard evidence. It is a giant joke.

The point in believing in something like Christianity is to give a person hope and a purpose. Yes, historically Christianity has given many people the wrong purpose (War), but for many others it is a very positive influence. The human brain does not like pressure. Having a god takes away the pressure of a random, uncontrollable life. This is the way I see it.

But what do I know, I'm an atheist.

Yeah see that's one of the big problems I see with Christianity. People choose to give up their problems to Jesus instead of solving them on their own. It's a crutch for the weak minded.

This can be the case, yes. But for some people, it just makes life more peaceful. It's a double-edged sword, it really is.

You are. Simple as that I'm sure most on here will agree.

Stop acting like you're the enlightened one when what, 5 billion people on this earth in some way or another believe in a higher power. Are you and your fellow "thinkers" just that much more special? Did you come up with some of those thoughts in your parents basement?

I already told you I don't believe in most of the stuff in the bible as most of it is complete bullshit and imo, just a "guide" to live your life. But there is TONS of evidence to support a lot of the stories in there that one cannot just ignore.

You opinion is "this is bullshit." Good opinion dude. Well thoughout, would read again.

Always amazes me how derailed some threads get.
I'm Not Right in the Head | Random Rants and other Nonsense1st Order Logic Failure: Association fallacy, this type of fallacy can be expressed as (∃xS : φ(x)) → (∀xS : φ(x)), meaning "if there exists any x in the set S so that a property φ is true for x, then for all x in S the property φ must be true".

Throwing up defensive walls and bashing the basher is no way to argue.

                    Rhetoric lose.

Haha, that sounds a lot like faith to me.

Maybe I am being a bit arrogant but I do think that I have been lucky enough to have learned Philosophy as a skill which has allowed me to rationally question anything and everything. Most people live their lives without ever learning these skills and ever forming a belief of their own.

It is everyone's duty to search for the truth rather than to believe something without question. It is never justified for anyone, anywhere, at anytime to believe anything without sufficient reason or evidence. Christians do it by definition.

I can agree with you 10000% even though we believe in different things...

I don't agree with what relgion's have done in the past, but some of the general messages in them are what has kept society together.

My wife goes to church every sunday.....she takes the kids with her......I stay home and work in the garage or clean the house or do yard work or whatever whilst I smoke cigarettes, and drink beer.....we have come to the understanding that I'm a non-believer..I only believe in whats here..around me and is indeed tangible.........she believes in god, prays every nite yadda yadda yadda.......I have always felt she is free to do what as she wants. If she wants to go to church.....I'm not going to stop her because I don't want to go....she just knows not to push it on me. I have no idea about this scientology stuff.....I was never really into religion. I was raised as a luthran and as I got older I felt too many things didn't make sense. Sort of like rationalizing that a bump in the night wasn't a big scary monster under my bed....it was the bloody cat jumping off the counter or what not. But at any rate.....it really sux that something like this could ultimately dissolve your relationship. I hope you can get things sussed out. I find it hard to believe that your relationship is based solely upon your religion or faith or whatever you choose to call it.
