I'm still not sure what it is. I've never seen yellow anything (factory) on an E30?

They don't come yellow. The chrome fades and rubs off and then the plastic starts to discolor and look yellow. Sorry Steven, your car is a fine example.

See the orange ring around the windshield?

Mine is bunk too. It's no longer chrome and is now dirty white:

Which is funny, both Steven and I have lockstrips that match our wheels. Lol!

If they are old enough to discolor, then they are old enough to start shrinking. And, they are easy to replace and cost nothing.

Understood Adam. It's just a temporary fix but it sure as hell looks better than before.

I just did a lockstrip for a friend a few hours ago. Unless you guys have some sort of magic it might be a stressful party lol.

FWIW, if you are using a hook instead of a lock strip tool, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND a bit of painter's tape on the paint around the gasket. Double width at the corners.

Warm up the rubber and the lockstrip a little and have a steady hand and it goes in pretty easy. Cold rubber and a shaky hand make it a little more difficult.

I just did my E21's a couple months ago while it was about 40 degrees. Not too bad.

This is the general idea. Except it works better to use Wurth Silicone Spray and a smooth, slow and steady hand movement, not that wiggling. That can damage the rubber or the finish on the lockstrip.

Ya what I really needed was a better lubricant. I was using just soapy water.
