I used to work at a Jiffy Lube. They have some schaisty business practices. Not to mention, as OP showed, they charge an insane amount of simple lube replacements and then try to add on a bunch of other things to your bill. Go to your local private tech shop, support your local economy, don't get fucked over.Originally posted by Wh33lhopThis is r3v. Check your vaginal sand at the door.

Oil change
Yep.
And lots of people will pay that and not even bat an eyelid.
But consider that most of the motoring public has absolutely no interest in oil changes- what they entail, what they cost, why they are needed. (Don't even go into how to change a tire) These people just get in their appliances and get from point A to point B. They will wait for some warning light to tell them to visit the dealer.
The only other group that would pay this much for an oil change are those that are too busy to do the work themselves. Possibly the oil change costs less than their hourly wage.
Then there is that other group that replies to the mechanic, "Oh. Is that why that orange light has been on?"

Full high quality synthetic oil can go for anywhere from $8-$15 qt. VW recommends expressly NOT to use non-synthetic or synthetic blends due to oil sludge issues. JL is making sure to use factory recommended oil to cover their liabilities.
So lets say its a V6 at 7 qts.
7qts at retail cost of $12 = $84, assuming they used a quality factory filter they probably charged $10. So right now you have $95, add $20 labor and viola $115.
Typically the invoice will be itemized so you know exactly what oil was used, how many quarts, how much per quart, how much the filter was and how much labor was. Perhaps you can post up the line item details from the invoice.
$115 for a full synthetic oil change is not uncommon. You also have to keep in mind you can run that oil for up to 12K miles.
So if we do the math and standard mineral based oil change at $30 at 3K miles x 4 service intervals equals $120.
So now it doesn't seem like such a rip off. Although I would admit I would not trust Jiffy Lube to use the best quality oils or filters.

The most I've paid for my 740IL (M62tu) was like $125. Where does this extra $500 come from?!

Where are people getting $12+ figures for a quart of synthetic..?
Last time I did my change, a 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 Full synthetic only ran me ~$26. My last oil change cost me $47 to do myself, (5 quarts) and that's WITH me buying the tool I needed or my filter; next change will be easier and cheaper.
The single jugs were about $8 each, and I had to pick one up later down the road because I leaked some out of my RMS when I took off my flywheel or a five-speed swap. Granted I bought them from Wal-Mart because Autozone was charging $11 a quart. THATS BS..
Even with the higher cost of synthetic and the need for more oil because of a bigger engine. OP shouldn't have paid more than $80-90 for a shop; I didnt even pay over $50 for the top quality stuff (Mobil 1 Synthetic, Bosch Filter). Even at 10 quarts, your still only coughing up $70 max+Filter yourself and oil changes literally takes minutes.. Paying someone $50 in labor for 20-30 minutes of work..? Math doesn't add up unless your a crook where you don't bat an eye to any addition to your pocket; shoddy money or legitimate.
OP.. I guess i have to ask the question no one dare inquire. Was this JiffyLube owned by Vlad?
