Tubular Front Sub frame and Custom Pan for dual pump set up

Hello all,
I apologize for the delay in getting some up-to-date pics. I got around to bolting it all up to the motor on the engine stand (car is at the body shop) so you can get an idea of how it all works together.
Overall the oil pan capacity went up slightly. It holds about 32.5 more cubic inches or .53 liters. So not a significant increase, but pretty good for removing such a large portion of the factory sump.

Basically you can't run a rear sump pan unless you notch into your firewall or you hack up your subframe.
The front part of the rear sump pan is shaved down or back and there is additional capacity added to the sides of the existing sump.

This looks interesting, but I would say it is a very very much more difficult way to do it compared to how mine is done. I assume you have seen the pics since you used one of them above here.
When that is said, how is the weight on the sub frame you are making compared to the stock one?
Also, there would be a benefit to have sway bar mounts both front and rear. So if you are going to put in an E30 engine later, you will not have to change the sub frame.1987 BMW E30 M3 RB26

How so? this way the subframe is all reinforced and much stronger than the factories, and when the pan is notched and sumped it provides more capacity and plenty of clearance. We're happy with this wayLast edited by TinyT; 02-08-2011, 07:45 AM.

I THINK you the new clearance is a couple of inches but I am not sure. Basically the E34 pan hangs well below the subframe and with this set up the sump is about .5" higher than the subframe. I would also be willing to bet the overall thickness of this subframe is less than the stock unit resulting in more clearance.
I have not tried any other headers on this set up but this subframe is smaller dimensionally especially where the headers pass through. I would think, based on the minimal amount the factory frames have to be modified, that the stock headers (euro s50 or s54) would clear this. If someone sent me a pair I could test fit them. I do not have any stock headers laying around.
Yes, you could mound the sway bar 180 degrees around and it would bolt up the same way. My car is an M3 so I am using adjustable end links and they will work fine. Do they make adjustable end links for non-M cars? If so they should work as well. The sway bar placement is not too far from stock and that's why adjustable units would be best.
