I've seen a lot of folks here are searching for that magical short 2.8L crank that will clear 130mm rods with short i pistons.
I'm going with IE/Mahle pistons for my 2.9L build (thanks to some individuals on this forum ;) ) but I would like to share some info that I found on that unicorn crank everyone is looking for.
That short crank has a casting #2242898. Looks like it's available only in Europe. You also need to make that it's listed as 2.8. Looks like 2.5 TD Range Rover crank uses the same casting number.
You can also go all out and use Hartge (labeled) crank with 2242898 casting. Hartge part # 11-36-0620
US ebay searches return only 2.5TD crank when using 2242898 in a search but UK or German eBay shows plenty of 2.8L 2242898 short cranks.
For example : http://www.ebay.de/itm/BMW-E36-328i-...EAAOSwWTRWv2UI
Hope it will help someone.
