Being that half(?) of all cars sold come with stamped steel wheels with hub caps, I'm going to say your logic is completely off base.

Not sure about any clearance issues .You can order them with 2"-5" backspacing.

WOW, didnt expect to have 2 pages already.
wheels are 16x8 with 4 3/4 inch back spacing.
there is major caliper bracket issues in the front.
I did some cutting and some welding and some cutting just to get them to fit.
you can run 8 mm spacers but they will poke a lot more.
5mm would be nice with caliper grinding but since the wheels are not flat on the back you cant run 5mm unless you get specific 4x100 ones that are flat.

By all means the wheels are not light. with no tire they are over 20lbs.
I drove with these on my white e30 for months ( pic below. )and hit more pot holes then you can think and none of them are bent.
          tires are 215/40 also.

Do you have any pics of how you modified your caliper bracket to make these fit?

So enlighten me on exactly how you fit these. I nearly pulled the trigger on diamond racing a few months back...I even called and placed the order but canceled it.

What exactly did you do to get them to fit on the front? Only front fitment issues? How far off is the front caliper?
