I would hate to be the drivers of the prototype challenge cars when it rains. Specially when it was raining hard over night.

Good fun - the little I saw from the IMSA in-car feeds, but they were good. IMSA radio was pretty good too. Mid-engine 911 almost caught up at the end.

I almost boycotted when I saw the mid engine 911RSR... rear engine or its not a 911.

What a great car though. Just held onto 2nd.

Was a great race. Sucks turner got caught up with an LM car and set them back they were running so good.

People said the same thing about Porsche going from air cooled to water cooled. They did what they had to do to stay competitive and thats the end of the story. The road car is still rear engine so honestly I don't know why people are so upset about the whole thing.

Question about the BMWs and Turner -
Why base the race car on the big M6 instead of a 3-4 or better yet lightweight 2-series? Is it marketing? Is it rules that keep it in the same weight class as Corvettes etc? Just curious.

The C7 weighs a little less than the F82 so I would figure they would weigh about the same in race trim too. I think its some type of marketing thing. Personally I think they've ruined the M3/4 brand and even the ///M brand in general so I don't care what they race.

I am really happy to see Ford doing so well. I would have loved to see a Ford and Ferrari fight at the end, but I'll take that Porsche and Ford battle.

Supposedly though BMW is working in something big for the 2018 24hr of le mans. Could be a new car? They couldn't go there now with the current configuration cause they lack top end speed and the big long straights would kill them.

It's not like the race cars share ANYTHING with the road cars, so It doesn't matter. I suspect it more about packaging than anything else and then they slap on a body that looks the most similar.

They both use same wheel base and v8 platform. Im sure there is other things too. To be able to run the GT classes it has be to be based off the street car. Wouldn't be surprised if they started life as an m6 and under go serious surgery.

Yeah I would imagine they chose the M6 for packaging. They needed to make a certain amount of power, on the GTE/GTLM tire and needed space for the necessary aero.. There is no way they were going to try to run the 3.0L in that class.

The one thing I love about the Continental Tire Series is that a lot of the cars in that were bought off the showroom floor, gutted, caged, than raced. In fact the Audi's that run in it use the factory steering wheel. I think its so they can use the flappy paddle gear box, but I could be wrong about that.

Yep, that is correct. I work for Freedom, we run 3 MX-5's in the Continental Tire Series. I think ST is a fantastic class, the cars aren't as cheap as you'd think but the racing is great.

I was reminded this morning that the Burthurst 12hr race is this coming weekend.

Always one of my favorite races of the year.
