Have ya heard..!? (BMW news inside)

    M1 concept..

This year's Concorso d'Eleganza at Villa d'Este has its public day tomorrow, which is when the world will get its first look at the new BMW M1 concept, a stunning, modern take on Munich's original supercar that is part of Bimmer's 30th anniversary celebration of the classic machine. The private exhibition took place today, however, and the guys at Asphalte.ch -- they were the first with live shots of the Lamborghini LP560-4 earlier this year -- have once again scored a coup, snapping the new, copper-colored M1 concept in all its glory, both alone and alongside its forebears. We expect to have a lot more on this car tomorrow, but for now, head to Asphalte.ch to see more shots of the car under the lights. Hey BMW, just pull the trigger and greenlight a production version already, because this thing is awesome.

Interesting to say the least. I'm sure it'll grow on me, just like how the new M3 did, but some of those lines are pretty wild. I see the resemblance but maybe I guess I just wish it had stayed a little more modern-classic looking rather than it just rolled off a space ship.

Those side mirrors in some pictures look pretty puny.

I hate to say this, but that is ghastly. That doesn't mean I wouldn't rock the SHIT out of it if I could get my grubby mitts on a set of keys, but I'd know I didn't look like hot in the process. That's one of those cars that you drive because of what it is, not because of what it looks like. Although I suppose the same could be said for the original too so it's in good company.

sign me up, i don't think the narrow mirrors would make it to production. i love the headlights though.

            they should build it.

The wheels look like the wounds that the T-1000 gets when Arnie shoots it in T-2. :D Curt, how long until you're rocking a set?

I like the back and the sides, but not the front so much.

I like the cues taken from the real M1, they are quite subtle and try to blend into a modern design. But overall, it fails. That front end is what hurts the most to look at, much too squared off for the curvy, modern-ness that is the grille and headlamps. And the parts-bin kidney grilles don't help at all. The back isn't terrible, of course one could say "Well, gee, I wish they would have made it identical to the old one," but cars evolve. As much as I'd love to see a reincarnation that almost looks identical to the genuine article, it just won't happen. I am feeling those (albeit strictly concept) wheels though, they look hot.

Looks like a reaction to the Mazda Furiai (sp?) to me. I'd like to see some more modern wheels, the sides of the read diffuser in black, and the front area a little shortened visually.

This is the same deal as that Mille Miglia Coupe "concept" BMW made last year. Not going into production, not intended for production, just a homage to a legend.

I would kill for one. It kinda reminds me of the new camaro that is supposed to come out because of the headlights. Other than that its pure sex.
