What oil to use on my m20?

So I'm in the process of replacing the oil pan and gasket on my car. Its a completely stock 90' vert. What oil should I use? I live in CA, pretty much hot all summer. Synthetic or non? And is there a preference on oil filter too? Might as well change that out to. Thanks!

You can run synthetic, but dino oil works just as well since the oil/filter change interval is low and dyno is cheaper. Castrol (or any other major) 20w50 is a good choice.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

What's the mileage on your car and is there any other known engine oil leaks? I used to run syn oil in my car but now its approaching 200K miles and stuff like Mobile 1 just winds up on the driveway. For dino-based oil I use Castrol GTX 20W50. It works - it's cheap - 'nuff said.

130k miles, no oil leaks other than the crack oil pan.

          So 20w/50? Dino?

20w50 sounds too thick, it sounds better with 10w40 synthetic-blend High Mileage.

along with the best oil filter i.e Amsoil EaO, K&N = Mobil 1.

Thanks drift! I'll check out my local auto part store tomorrow. What about 15w-50? Someone mention that. So syn-blend only?

just stay with mineral oil and keep up the changes. 20w/50 is fine, its what they reccomend and its what we all run down here, otherwise, 15w/40 if you want something a little thinner for cold starts.
Just a little project im working on

I have been runnin castrol gtx 10w-30 high mileage on mine, but I am going to switch to 20w-50 syn blend because I am at 234,000 miles and I want to make sure my engine is well lubricated. Will this be a good move?

Yes and yes. Just change it and your filter every 3K miles. The oil and decent filter at AutoZone or Kragen shouldn't be much beyond $20. Buy a case if its on sale.....you'll be changing it again anyway ;-)

Castrol GTX 20W-50 is the only way to go!

Every once in a while, I will use 1 quart of Castrol GTX High Mileage 20W-50 and then fill the rest with normal 20W-50

BMW Recommends 15w40 oil. I always thought that was actually too THICK. So Ive always ran Castrol GTX 10w40 with Lubromoly anti friction.
