    1992 e30 325ic

I purchased this car about 5 months ago and have been doing a couple of repairs: OBC., antenna, radio, etc. but i've finally got a problem that has stumped me.

Its a convertible and the gear just on top of the motor was broken until recently i ordered a part from germany to fix that i have replaced that and when i plugged it back in and hooked every thing up and hit the switch on the dash board it will not turn?

I've tested the motor not in the car and it works just fine and checked the cords multiple times but it just won't turn for some reason?

If any of you have had experience with these before or have any suggestions i would love to hear them

    Thanks, Mason

Couple of ideas off of the top of the head are: Make sure there is power getting to motor first. Also check to make sure that the switch is working properly.

          Plus one.

E30 power soft-top = good reason to track down a cabby hard-top, in my opinion.

Yes, it can be fixed, but it's a good bit of work. That's all I'm getting at.

          Good luck, again.

Most people convert their power tops to manual as the power tops are prone to failure and expensive to fix.

My '91 has a power top that works perfectly. I have to adjust it occasionally to keep it working. I have all the parts on hand to convert it to a fully manual top when the big crash occurs. My '89 is a manual top and I prefer it ten to one over the power top.

The same thing happened to mine... I ended up replacing it with another one... here are some pic's ..the broken one...

Try to test the motor without connecting these two rods just to see if it is turning... also make sure that inside the trunk, the motor itself has a little release that engages the gears of the motor to turn. If you do not hear any noise coming from the trunk when you are turning the up and down switch, there must be a cable not connected or it could be a fuse too.

Just make sure that you have all 3 wires connected and the release handle (the black one in the motor on this picture below) it is engaged with the gears of the motor. Hopefully, this will make sense 8)

Mine is working fine now.. Of course, I always try to help the top when it is going up and down since these motors are pretty bad and prone to break easily..
                  Good Luck !!
