Feeler GB - 280x10mm rear kit

This is the proper thread for the 280mm x 10mm rear kit using Z1 discs and Dynapro calipers. That kit would be the match for the allreay existing 280mm x 22mm kit with Corrado discs which also has a GB going on.

List of interested persons for rear kits. Copy/paste - add your name.

Did you investigate the Wilwood Parking brake rotors at all?

No. Not going this direction. A Z1 rotor will be used, with Dynapro calipers. Target price is still $550usd w/o the rotors.

My suggestion was based on availability, no one has even confirmed if the Z1 rotors are readily available.

IF, it turned out it was always going to have be purchased in bulk OR have a long lead time to receive them, it wouldn't be a good option. At least in my opinion.

I understand your point. The Z1 rotor is available from BMW dealers or, as you mentionned, maybe from aftermarket suppliers. This is an easy solution. As it requires no machining, and after all, it it is a BMW part. Having to adapt another Wilwood part, making two-piece rotors, etc, is a very expensive solution that goes beyond the target of the front and rear 280mm kits, which is to be at the bottom of the price list. Not only parts must be cheap, but the amount of development should be minimal, as it also costs. And honestly, while I am prepared to spend hours developping one bracket and a few days folling its production, I am not willing to spend two weeks on hats, brackets, etc, for 10 kits sold.

Completely understand, I just think the actual availability of the rotor needs to be confirmed before setting up the GB around it.

But, the parking brake rotors are one piece, the main concern would be offset and if it would fit under a 15" wheel.

I will verify today with Pelican Parts. Even if they are only available in a month. That's probably the timeline for the caliper adapters to be produced.

If you can, also find out about FUTURE availability, ie, not a big order but someone just wanting to order a pair.

Futur availability depends on suppliers and on BMW. BTW I will not supply the rotors. Everyone will have to get their own Z1 rotors from whatever source they prefer.

This is the request I sent to Pelican:

Hello, I have a few questions regarding this rotor. It is from a European model E30, the Z1. A supplier of brake kits for BMW's, Massive Brakes, is trying to start a group buy at R3Vlimited.com, a forum for E30 owners. He wants to get 10 people committed to start production of brackets that would allow us to use these rotors with Wilwood calipers. He is not interested in furnishing rotors, which is where you come in.

I'm not asking for group buy prices, although that would be great. E30 owners are notoriously cheap, and it may be a while before we get 10 people to commit to this (we currently have 4), so I can't say when we would need rotors by. Ultimately, though, there will be 20 of these rotors that will be needed.

                    So my questions:
                    1) Does BMWNA have any of these rotors in stock in the states, or will they have to come from Germany? If so, is there any way to find out how many they have in stock?

                    2) If you could get 10 people to commit to buying the rotors through Pelican, is there any chance of special pricing or deals on shipping?

Regardless of other people ordering rotors from you, I will be ordering 1 to verify fitment, and then 3 more, 2 for spares. Is it possible to get an idea of shipping charges for a single rotor at this time?

Thank you for your time and consideration, I will be looking forward to hearing from you!

                    Sincerely,
If anyone knows a way that BMW will verify stock on a part number, I'm all ears.

I asked my local parts guy, and they don't have any. Their CCA price was $125.34, and my employee price was $107.18. I would need to special order these from Germany.

I pretty much assumed BMWNA wouldn't have them in stock, as the car is Euro only. I meant checking stock in der vaterland.

Tischer lists them for the 107 price, Pelican shows them for 95.25. Which is why I sent the first feeler to Pelican, but if they don't respond or can't help us, we'll try Tischer next.

BMW Canada has a pair in Toronto, as of two months ago. I will probably buy them from a friend who works in a dealership and gets better than BMWCCA's 15% discount.

PS Brian. Thanks for enquiring with Pelican Parts.

As for special ordering parts from the Motherland, it is usually a 5 days wait. So no biggie.

I'm going to contact Tischer, but if the numbers are correct then we need to see if BMW will tool up again for these rotors or not. With the E30 achieving "archive" status, I'm not as hopeful as before.
