    e46 steering rack swappable?

I'd like to swap my steering rack to something tighter and I have an e46 rack in my garage. Its 3 turns lock to lock.

I've only found one source that talks about using an e46 rack.

Does anyone know if there's any problems with using one?

Do you already have the rack?

If not just go for the E36 M3 and save the trouble of guessing whether it will work or not.

If you already have it, well, I'm sure there is a way to do it.

Everything seems to be okay for the e46 rack. I'll be changing the tie rods to e36 ones and using 14mm spacers for bolting up. removing the inner rods is proving to be extremely difficult so I'm taking the easy way. I'm going to mill some in the next few days and I'll post some photos. Found some good info on e3024v

this is interesting, what kind of ratio does the E46 rack offer opposed to the E36 racks?

                    all e46s were 15.4:1 even M3 except M3 ZCP/CSL which had a 14.5:1 and the 330 ZHP had a 13.7:1 which is remarkable actually.

correct not sure why they made the zhp the imo best rack, you'd think the zcp but hey if that makes the part cheaper and it can be retrofitted without much difficulty i know what i need to do :D

Pics of said rack? How is the angle on it, and location of the power steering hose ends?

Interesting. Driving e46s I'd never guess the ratio was quicker.

e46>e30 is soon going to replace e36>e30. Can't wait.
