needle bearing roller rockers for m20 anyone?

so yesterday i stopped by mr CJ raeburn's home and had a little chat reguarding my needlebearing roller rockers, after taking a look at the old one i had he suggested i call up an old friend of his mike of harland sharp custom speed. after speaking with mike and him doing some research we have decided to build custom needle bearing tipped roller rocker arms with a screw adjustment instead of an eccentric adjustment.

production will begin in august and drawings should be available sometime before then.

i am trying to find other folks interested in sets of these as cost will be drastically cut

less than 5 people = $50 per rocker arm $600 per set
    5 people = $40 per rocker arm = $480 per set
    10 people = $30 per rocker arm = $360 per set
    25 people - $20 per rocker arm = $240 per set

shipping costs will be worked out later but frankly i am more interested in who would be interested in these rockers.

if everyone is interested we can get custom anodization and or race coatings. i don't see much of a point to these options concidering the costs however if enough people are interested we will discuss it further including pricing.

I can't imagine how much more power I can uncork from my m20 with these. $600 is a steal and well worth it.

I might be in for these, but I won't know until I get pricing back on the magnesium head bolt washers and alternator bracket I'm having custom made on a waterjet at $400 an hour. If they're less than $2000 for both the washers and bracket, count me in. Only assuming I don't decide to redo my car with aircraft rivets and wiring, though. Ill let you know.

I think I heard about your setup man! That thing is going to be killer. You're running the eta head on the b25 block, right?

That's one custom high compression setup you have going.

wow just when you think the sarcasm can't get even more awe inspiring. i think you need to get some chome doors, chrome windsheilds, chrome painted body, chrome tires, chrome rims, chrome steering wheel, chrome windows, oh and chrome seats and go ahead and remove the ac and sit drive it in the summer. oh and you should totally go with a chrome dash, chrome stereo, and chrome radiator, chrome block, chroome chankshaft, chrome pistons, chrome piston rings, chrome bearings, chrome oil pump, chrome oil. hey while you're at it replace your blood with some chrome.

This thread needs more tech info. Why bearings and not the usual bushings? How will the main problem of rockers cracking be solved? Metalurgy? Intensive testing? Background of the two engineers?

Let us know more. It may be an interesting product.

Somehow, I don't feel the lack needle bearings either rubbing on the cam or letting the rocker rock is gonna matter to a hill of bean in this car.

You would think that something as relatively simple as rollers would have been addressed many years ago had this been the case.

I do love the sound of roller rockers...full rollers on a SBC (about 10 to 1 on a 305 cam, wewt!) still sound badass...especially with roller lifters.

I just would not waste the time on an M20. That big shoe follows the cam just fine.

harland sharp is incredibly well documented. google them or check out their website http://www.harlandsharp.com/ the plan is to use 2024 aircraft grade anodized aluminum. to prevent these rockers from cracking they will be oversized as much as possible keeping tolerances as necessary along a better quality of aluminum as well as being made from billet as opposed to cast.

PPF tried to make roller rockers for the M20 years ago, and decided it wasn't feasable. technically possible, yes, but the geometry constraints meant it won't fit inside the valve cover and needs modifications to the head. so if the people who build ungodly BMW parts & engines couldn't do it how is a baggy pants high schooler going to pull it off?

you can get IE HD rockers for a little more than stock, and they are quite good (beefy, solid castings with no pores). Even billet rockers are a little overkill.

nando i love how you think i am in high school lol.

secondly harland sharp is definately not some highschool kid. they are the ones designing and building these i am merely the end-user.

moreover you have no idea what my intentions are for the m20 so your opinion is completely not necessary. if you are interested fine if not please move onto the next thread. furthermore the fact that these are going to be made from billet is what makes them feasable.

i only care about finding out who is infact interested - nothing more nothing less.

apparently theres only like 1-2 people interested. and alot of other people might be interested, but will never spend the money.
