    225/45or50/15

    Hey guys,

    So I'm ordering up a set of TRM C1's and need some help with what tires to wrap them in. I was thinking Yokohama AVS ES100 in 225/50/15 but I'm not sure. Would 225/50/15 or 225/45/15 be better? It's going to be a street/autox car so leme know what you guys think would be best. Also if you guys can recommend a cheap place to get those tires that would be awesome. Looking to spend around $400-450 for a set of tires, but the cheaper the better as long as they perform. Though I'd be willing to pay a lil more if the performance difference is really that great. I don't really care if they're noisy. Long-lasting tires would be great, I don't want to be replacing these tires anytime soon so I can spend money on other parts of the car for now. I know I'm kinda asking for everything haha, but just leme know what you guys had in mind. ;)

    I laid the whole spectrum of decent tire choices out in the other thread for you. If you want something decent that's going to last, go for 225/50 G Force Sports. If you want something that is relatively cheap, won't last all that long but will perform very well in the dry, go for the 205/50 Kumho XS ($90 a pop IIRC). If you want a slightly more expensive wider grippy tire that also won't last long, 225/45 RS3. If your alignment is in spec, the stickier tires can last you 10k+ miles, and if you're going to autocross in the dry, bang for the buck points to the Kumhos.

    If I were you, I'd take advantage of Tire Rack's free mounting/balancing service. Mounting and balancing typically costs $15+ per tire at a reputable shop with a DSP9000, so unless you somehow get your heart set on a tire that TR doesn't offer, just order it all at once and have them mount the tires for you.

      Thanks a lot wh33lhop. I appreciate your advice, pretty much gave me all the options I was looking for. :) Well, I think my bad habit of always wanting expensive shit is kicking in. I'm probably gonna go with the RS3's. My alignment is crap right now, but I'm going to get one as soon as I install my coilovers and wheels/tires. As soon as I'm done putting it all on I'm heading straight to the shop to get that done. I hit the curb a few weeks ago and bent both of my bottle caps so that's why my alignment is out of whack. (Don't worry I learned my lesson and hopefully won't be doing that to the c1's haha.)

      I didn't know Tire Rack does mounting and balancing for free? Damn that's nice! I'll take advantage of that for sure.

        You can get the XS's in a 215 and they are a bad ass tire for 92 bucks.

          I'll sell you my Sumitomo HTR 200 225/50r15 for cheap. they have about about 6K and one auto-x on them, still loads of thread left.

            225/45s will also be a much easier fitment if you are low.

            The R1R would be another option in 225/45 if you want a sticky Extreme Summer tire.

                  toyo is having a special now on 205/50zr15 r888 save $150 when you buy 4,not a bad deal, just not a great size..

                      searched and couldn't find the other thread
                      anyone with experience using 225/50/15 on euroweaves any clearance issues ? just looking for something a bit wider trying to stay close to stock diameter.
                      appearance -balloning etc. ? Car is DD so going with all season tire.

                        Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't see the logic in going with an all season tire for a DD. You're basically saying you'd rather have 50% of the max performance in the summer and 50% max performance in the winter? Why not just get a summer tire that still performs decent in the wet? Most summer tires do well in the wet anyway so there's really no point to all seasons IMHO. That way you won't lose any performance from the tire in the dry, and it'll probably still perform better in the wet than an all-season.

                        That's just what my friends tell me though, so I could be wrong.
