early 325e 5speed to 89 325i

Newb question....

I'm about to pick up an 85 325e from a friend for cheap. I getting the car mainly because it is a 5 speed. I plan to swap transmissions with my current 89 325i. Will the early model 325e transmission bolts right up to a late model I car?

You probably don't want that tranny. 85 only has mounting provisions for the sheet metal console. 86 has both.

If it is the early style tranny without the cast-in mount for late model aluminum arm shifter type, you can use a oem BMW M3 part that allows for this exact scenario.

i made this mistake, the tranny wont swap.

the output flange is different and will NOT match up.

Depends on what year eta tranny you are using. Some had the big output flange.
