New girl on the forum and...

    Planning to do a s52 swap into a e30.

So here's a sad story, I got my e30 318is around May from CL, and unfortunately there's a warming up problem (it takes about 30mins-hr to warm up:( ) and : for the past three months my friends and I replace anything you could think of, couldn't figure out the problem. I was fed up , disappointed, ready to sell the car and possibly a e46. But my friends convinced me to do a swap that will save me a tons and a lot more fun, hence I did a little research on my own, and found myself really liking the idea of the s52 in my e30. The swap isn't going to be easy I already know this, but with a help of my friends, and YOU GUYS . I believe this will get done without a problem. With that being said, any question, comments, suggestions, concerns are more than welcome! :)

Read the swap thread, use the search function, everything about this swap has pretty much been covered, and, lastly, watch out for forum pervs asking for pics.

The swap will cost more than you expect. Especially with a 318. The small shit adds up so be prepared to go over budget

How much money do you have ? How long is acceptable for your car to be off the road? Oh, and welcome to r3v.

The warming-up problem = thermostat stuck open. Did you replace that? It is very possible that a new thermostat could still be bad, dont rule that out.

I'm assembling parts for a 24V swap, too, and as said above, there are unforseen things adding up.

                  - Do you already have the engine?
                  - What transmission are you using?
                  - Hard-wiring the harness or getting an adaptor?
                  - What brake booster?
                  - What driveshaft?
                  - What headers?
                  - Airbox or CAI?
                  - What motor mounts/transmission mounts?
                  - How much are you going to tear down the motor you buy? Going to pull the head and replace the head gasket, or just VC gasket & oil pan gasket?
                  - What are you going to use for your exhaust?
                  - How are you upgrading your brakes (which you really should do going to an S52)?
                  - How are you dealing with OBD-II issues?

Just some things to plan for. Happy to chat about what I'm doing for these things if you'd like. Lots of great info on this board.

To try my best to answer your questions:
I bought the s52 yesterday, The motor is already converted to obdI .
                    - Tranny I got is a zf.
                    - A e36 m3 harness
                    - For brake booster I haven't got one yet , which one would you recommend?
                    I m looking at e21
                    - E36 m3 driveshaft
                    - Stock headers in the mean time but probably just grab one of ebay
                    - Im looking at a 3.5 MAF with 4" intake and SAMCO SPORT Siilicone elbow
                    - Motor mount:e28 Transmission mount:e21
                    - Just the gasket for the oil pan because of switching e34 oil pan oil pick up
                    and dipstick
                    - e36 m3 catback with custom straight pipe?
                    - For now I don't have the funds for the brake, but I'd like a full m3 brake .
Any suggestions, correct me if I m wrong here!

                    -Jaylissa.

                        THIS.

I only paid $700 for my M50 with the E34 oil pan, dipstick, E36 arms, and ECU, and probably still put another $1k-1300 into it before I had it back on the road, but I replaced a ton of other maintenance parts, too.

You WILL go over budget. It just happens, you can't plan for everything. There are going to be literally dozens of little things you will discover you need, are missing, broken, need to be replaced, you forgot, etc.

If so I'd be glad to help with the swap, I've done it twice.

Wow you got a really good deal.
I got my motor for 2g with ecu accessories, harnesses.
My budget is about 3-4g. Im really hoping I m not going to go over that, but I def. agree with what you say can't predict anything while working on cars!

Your budget will allow for plenty of wiggle room. Good luck.
