February 2012 Car Of The Month - Stephen

Factory options: Came “325” so very few.

    Color: Schwarz

Interior color: Originally black, now “brick” and black

Engine modifications: 2.7i, 19# injectors, RMS tune

Exhaust: Stock exhaust Manifolds> 2.5” Stainless> resonator> magnaflow. Factory resonator and Cat was removed.

    Differential: 3.25 LSD

Suspension: A “diy” coilover borrowing from bilstein, ground control and cosmo camber plates. M3 CABs, IE urethane Subframe and TABs.

    Wheels(pictured): Impul silhouette, Enkei Sporsh

Exterior modifications: Plastic bumper swap, Euro grilles, Hella Ellips w/ custom cracked lens and “X”, Kamei rear spoiler, Euro plate filler. Usually sporting an is lip, or mk3 lip.

Interior modifications: "Brick" dyed 'vert sport seats, Italian check panel, Italvolanti Formel steering wheel, UUC shift knob, DDM pedals, Guten Cluster, Ported rear seat for Luke Box.

Story behind the car: I bought the car as an eta, diving boards and all, bone stock in late 2006. It was the first car I could call my own. After pulling DD duty, I moved to Seattle for school, where at first the car stayed back home garaged so I could work on it. I went through several suspension setups and wheels before getting into the groove of things and building the car into what it is today. Finding a community and friends in the car “scene” was a big launching pad from taking the car from a mild e30 to my “vision .” The eta served me well, but last year was starting to get weak, so I used the opportunity to refresh the motor and do the 2.7i headswap. The results I fell in love with. After 5 years, I think the car has reached a major point in it’s life, but I plan on (and already am) continuing to change and improve the car, as the sentimental value is big to me. The car has taken me up and down the west coast several times, through rain, snow and ice.

Nice. You officially have my seal of approval.

But that vw lip is horrible. It's even worse than a volvo lip. You could have atleast put on an iS lip just for the photos.

I'll try and digup some more interior pics. The dying process was pretty simple, used an SEM dye ( a GM color code, "brick") you clean the crap out of the leather, mask off or remove plastic covers, use the supplied adhesion promoter/leather prepper, and then apply it in coats (aerosol). It really breathed new life into the vert seats.

I acutally usually have an is lip on. Just so happens all these pics are with the mk3 lip. The is lip keeps breaking, so i run the Mk3 lip in between. Its far heartier and more flexible then an is lip. And no, it looks better than a volvo lip

Please do. I assume that they were tan seats then.

Yep, natur. The dye is preety opaque, you might be able to go from black, it just might be a little darker (and if theres any wear it would wear to black not tan, which might look less natural)
