Simply just measure the diameter of your strut casing to find out what you have. This will determine if it's 45mm or 51mm that you need. Another general rule of thumb is 4 Cylinder E30= 45mm, 6 Cylinder E30= 51mm. However measuring it is the best way to go!

Yep welding is needed. It's simple and any local shop with a 'good' welder maybe able to do it. Check out the link above for Chris's installation photos and write up to see how to install and what's needed.
