a day fitting wheels. nailed it.

so today i spent the day at http://www.platinumwheels.co.nz/ and we experimented with fitting some 16x8 Rota grid-v's and new Toyo T1R's onto my car.

we had issues with the wheels design not having much brake clearance in the front. but the et20 offset gave us options. since we NEEDED spacers to clear the front. we decided that why not go with a generic 15mm spacer. bring the front offset upto et5 and run a 205/45. so we did.

once we had the spacers machined by the local engineer to accually fit the hub and the bolts machined down to fit in the recesses so they didnt obstruct the wheels we managed to get the fronts on. the stretch is very minor. which is good as im opposed to hella stretch. the other aid in the thinner front tyre is it will reduce it to track down grooves or uneven surfaces on the road. and once the GC coilovers are in they will tuck in nice. so its a win.

The rears were simple. a 225/40 was fitted and the side wall heights matched about perfectly. the right amount of tyre for my tastes. not too high as to whale about in corners. but still enough to give good flex.
as for fittment it was a simple job. we rolled the fenders while it was there. but they fit so easy its not funny. ill most likely be back there to get a 10 or 15mm spacer onto the rear so the fittment matches the front more, as soon as i get the ride height set so we know how they sit with the camber ect. as it is, the front sits further out due to the spacers. but they will be fixed.

photos will follow as soon as i can get them off my friends camera.

gassing up with what was left on my visa... ouch
    she needs to be lower!!

off the hoist after a day with no shoes.

sitting ready to go after tyres fitted.

the spacers we needed to clear the front brakes. gives a nice front offset too.
    et20 wheels with 15mm spacers.

front tyre stretch. not too bad. im not into stretch but we didnt really have a choice.
    glade it worked out well..

once ive got the adjusti's in and its sitting how i want. will get more pics and will most likely space the rear out to match the front better

I like the fitment of the tires. Even the black wheels look decent. But, where is the rest of the Mtech II kit?

I just tried fitting the et10 (with three different brake setups; factory, rx7 and the smallest massive kit) and hit on every single one. Do you have a shot of how much the front sticks out?

rest of the mtech 2 kit is coming. still needs painting, and the front needs repairing. nothing major.

in NZ t1r's are easy to get. they are the tyre of choice. and available in almost all sizes you can think of.

the cost ne $2300nz all up with the tyre and spacers ect.

no more shots atm. ill get some more as soon as the coilovers are done.
the fronts are pretty flush. but they fit easy. the backs will need a spacer to bring them back out as flush as the front ones are.

Why did you end up using an adapter style spacer instead of a standard hubcentric spacer with longs bolts/studs?

T1rs have been discontinued here in the USA. I need just 1 for my rx8. Other 3 are 70-80% tread. Or I have to buy 4 new other tires.

Are you sure it's not toyos new tire? The t1s or whatever?

its all we had access to. its worked out quite well. im going to look into what to run in the back. might space it and stud it. and do away with the bolts. then i can run black anodised alloy wheel nuts.

nope they are t1r's even says it on the side. toyos new tyre is the r1r. they are available too. but t1r's are still very common.
