Late Model Harness has FOUR wires going to the Starter Motor.
- One THICK Red wire that comes from the Engine Harness.
- One THICK Black wire that comes from the Battery Positive from the Power Junction off the firewall.
- Two SMALL black wires.
- One is BLACK/YELLOW Stripe (Signal Wire)
- One is BLACK/Green Stripe (Unloader Relay)
Early Model Starter Motor has TWO THREADED POSTS and ONE MALE SPADE CONNECTOR.
- Threaded Post closest to Engine (Has ground strap connected to it that goes to the body of the starter.)
- GROUND!
- Threaded Post furthest from the Engine. (To the RIGHT of the starter Motor if you're looking at it from the front of the car.)
- POSITIVE!
- Thick RED wire from Engine Harness, and Thick BLACK wire from Battery/Power Junction both get bolted down here.
- START SIGNAL!
- The Late Model Harness has this wire fitted with an Eyelet as opposed to a FEMALE Spade Connector... This clearly won't work. My research shows that you need to Crimp/Splice a FEMALE SPADE CONNECTOR to this wire (BLACK/YELLOW STRIPE) for the Starter Motor to recieve the START SIGNAL from your Ignition Switch.
- Easy Enough, right? No.

**Here's where things get funky.

BLACK/GREEN STRIPE Wire (Unloader Relay)
- What do I do with this thing? This wire activates the UNLOADER RELAY. What it does is DISABLES accessories such as Windows, Power Locks, Radio, Sunroof, ETC. and give ALL available power to the Starting Process.
- A few "solutions" i've read.
- Just ground the wire to the Chassis. What this is supposed to do is make it so your Windows, Power Locks, Sunroof, Radio, ETC. work EVEN WHILE you are cranking the car over. Pretty much bypasses the UNLOADER RELAY. (This is most likely what I plan on doing!)
- Splice the BLACK/GREEN STRIPE wire into the same SPADE CONNECTOR as the BLACK/YELLOW STRIPE wire. Not sure what this accomplishes but not knowing is killing me.
- Leave it DISCONNECTED. I've read from PEERLESS that no matter what, you CANNOT hook this wire up to the Early Starter. The best thing you can do is cap it off, set it aside, and understand that WHILE YOU'RE CRANKING YOUR ENGINE OVER, YOU WILL BE ABLE TO ROLL WINDOWS DOWN, ROLL SUNROOF BACK, LISTEN TO THE STEREO, ETC. Nothing wrong with that by any means.
Curious to see who's dealt with this, what people have done to remedy the situation, etc. Looking for first hand experience so we can compile this info into ONE PLACE. Sorry for the novel. My hope is that in the future this thread will help someone deal with a problem that should have a simple answer.
