    m20 cutting out

1989 325is. Car has been running very strong, but the engine cuts out under load at about 4200 rpm, check engine light flashes etc. I can then shift and everything seems fine again.

However, last night driving on the freeway at about 75 I seemingly kept having mini cut-outs and engine check flashes, but while the car was not at high RPM. Then after exiting the freeway mini cut-outs continued in the lower gears a little bit... wtf is the deal here. Could it be my distributer? Gunky Fuel injectors? I'm a retard without a garage of my own at the moment and with two e30's *struggling* please help.

Sounds like your crank position sensor is starting to fail. Bentley's will show you how to test this.

the actual unit is on the passenger side front of the engine and the wire raps up over the timing belt cover to under the diagnostic cap on the driver's side.

Failing air flow meter can also cause these symptoms.

yes, this is one that gets over looked often. after checking the crank position sensor check the air flow meter and the TPS. the air flow meter can be tricky to check.
