    5th gear lean

Does anyone have a list of parts needed to fix the 5th gear lean issue in a zf 5 speed?

Never done it. Was going to do it to the zf I am putting in, but I ran out of time so I'll need to pull the trans to do them later if need be.

i recommend doing it man, i thought the same thing but it is such an annoying problem. For better or worse im pulling the motor again to do the headgasket and i will do this at the same time.

I just priced out the parts it looks like about 40-80 bucks at most

I bet you could see if your tranny has the problem by attaching the shifter to it outside of the car, spin the output shaft to help it into gear

I need my car driving in 4 weeks and have a lot of shit to do. I don't have time to wait for parts and tools so I'm gonna have to hope that the trans is good.

If I hook up a shifter and shift into the various gears, what am I looking for to identify if there is a problem? Does the shifter in neutral just sit below 5th instead of the pocket between 3rd and 4th?

we do these on almost every ZF we've laid hands on. the first time i did it on my ZF was scary but every single on thereafter was quick and simple. just take your time. get the proper drift pin!

It will sit under 5th gear, the bigger issue is that you cant tell where 5th gear is because it feels just like 4th, when it gets bad enough its just luck whichever gear you get and i guess it can get even worse to the point you cant get it into 5th

I hear you man, i needed to get mine done asap too and now im pulling the engine again, ha

It wouldnt really bother me if it was just leaning on mine but 4th/5th is in like the same exact spot on mine

No idea if these prices are good or not. 60 bucks for drifts, 70 bucks for the service parts. Any other sources for these drifts?

Is there any reason that most diy's replace the 5th and reverse gear detents, but not the 3rd pin with the roller on the end of it? This diy replaces it but I don't know whether it is necessary to change that pin & bushings or not.

There was a recall on 5th and reverse detent pins, the poster there might have changed 3rd because it was a problem for them. I think it becomes an issue if its hard to get it in gear.
