    Corrado shock Myth

    Well...after loosing a lot of money with stupid restocking fees and venting on a diy thread because seriously its okay to joke around but before you do so include something helpfull, specially in a DIY thread and even more when it could cost money to another person!

    Continuing on. DO NOT GET CORRADO SHOCKS...not G60, not VR6 (koni strut assemblies). The fact coincidence that their part number is 8641 1198sport and Ground Control's is 8641 1198spgc doesnt make them the same. there is like an extra 4inches of shaft length although the casings seems to be exactly the same....maybe GC changes shafts, idk...maybe there's another shock people around here use, but back to the same point, there is no info available so what f.help is it?

    I should've probably stuck with the stock sized shocks i bought at first but for some reason i wanted to cut the struts just for the hell of it so it better have some advantages right? good night all.

    So the corrado shock is actually 4 inches LONGER than an e30 insert?
    The grilles really distract you from the fact that someone took a sledgehammer to the front end.

      just about, the shaft is longer than the size of the shock insert casing itself. GC's shaft is actually longer than the stock one as well.

        Not surprising. Thanks for the tip though.

        Have you thought about calling GC and asking if they can make your shocks into their shocks?

          Its not that big of a secret as plenty of shops offer the shortening of your housings and will sell you the right inserts .

          A few years ago when I called TrueChoice and Ground Control to see what all was involved with shortening the housings they said that an toyota Mr2 isert is what they would sell me .
          Revalved though for my application .

          Also the guy on here with the copper car is running the Corrado inserts on shortened housings .

          E30 M3 / E30 325is / E34 525iT / E34 535i

            No. The Corrado strut insert is shorter than the stock e30 one.

            Erik (ebelements) runs Corrado inserts on his copper colored e30 as Tigger pointed out.

              what shocks are you talking about...i ordered corrado shocks, also got some from advance auto just to verify and sure enough they are a good 4-5inches longer than stock.

              check anywhere you want part: 8641-1198sport are corrado G60 strut insers, i have them in the trunk of my car (havent returned them yet) thay are LOOONG. i just searched and there is a comparative pic of a member w/ a pic of ebelements car and below is a pic with a e30 bilstein and a corrado bilstein and the corrado shaft is longer than the e30 but the housing is 3inches or so shorter but that's not what we want.

              bro i'm telling you. corrado shocks are no good idk how this came about i want someone who ACTUALLY has them to post.... i went straight with GC for a reason. want pics?

                    because the piston isn't any shorter, maybe?
                    its basically the exact opposite of what you want (ie. short piston leads to more shock travel without the danger of bottoming out the piston).

                      you're gonna have the exact same shock travel (suposing same valving/stiffness)...it all depends on the springs you're running. but most importantly because with coilovers sleeve kits like ground control or cosmo, etc the spring WILL separate from the strut mount/hat a that's how things break on the street/track

                        So what shocks DOES one need for a shortened housing? I'm thinking about using Bilsteins anyway, so what would I need to buy?

                          When corrado insert is bottomed out, how musch does the piston(shaft) extrude from housin(the shock housing not the strut)?

                          Would it be possible to shorten the top end of the shaft and make longer thread or use spacers?

                          I mean that GC obviously modifies those insert if that 4" thing is right.

                            I thought the shock body sits lower in the strut housing and there's a spacer on top, thus accounting for the extra length?

                              ^^ it can be done, but know that neither GC nor corrado shock fits 100% tight like original shocks, they do however fit perfectly into the top nut so if you don't want shaking spacer at the bottom is the way to go...sadly this is true idk why but it works haven't had any problems with my setup.

                              as far as i know to this day, Ground Control is your best bet, decent price too. although someone at bimmerforums told me M3 shocks but idk i have yet to go to advance auto and inspect the M3 shock.

                              there's a good 4inches of shaft sticking out when you'r bottomed out.

                              you're suggesting cutting the shaft and rethreading what's left? them tubes are pretty darn tough to go though even with a cutoff disk then the cost of threading idk if a machine shop would do this for you. put a hacksaw to it see how far you get ;) ....... just get the right ones man.
