    SOLD - 1991 318is m50 swap

    --- SOLD ---

    Hello, R3vlimited!

Offering up my beloved e30 to find another home. Overall, the car is in good condition: it drives well enough to be a daily, it's nowhere near the end of its life, and it looks great - but it's got it's share of 30-yr-old-car quirks. It's very easy to work on and is a perfect running project or candidate for performance overhaul. I daily drove it in Texas and have taken it on 5-hr+ road trips with no issue. It's loud and very fun to drive and I wouldn't be getting rid of it but my priorities have shifted and I don't have garage space.

I bought this car in Louisiana in 2018 and towed it to MA in June 2020. The vehicle has spent its entire life in the South and has very little rust. Vehicle information from prior owner(s) is unavailable. Engine swap was well executed. The engine is in good condition and starts every time and runs well. The transmission shifts smoothly every time and the clutch has good grip. The body is in good condition: the paint does not appear to be original and is good with minor blemishes. The interior vinyl appears to have been replaced fairly recently. The dash is cracked and is covered by a removable vinyl cover.

    Price: $8,500 obo
    Location: Boston area
    Year: 1991
    Model: 318is
    Mileage: ~150k
    Title status: Clear
    Color: Brilliantrot
    Style: 2-door coupe (slick-top)
    Engine: 2.5L m50b25 (non-VANOS)
    Transmission: 5-speed manual

    Pros:
    - Runs and drives well
    - m50 (189 HP) delivers good power increase to stock m42 (and compared to m20)
    - Almost no rust on body (slight rust in rear corner of body-work; differential case is rusty)
    - Updated exhaust sounds great
    - Essential electronics are reliable and work well
    - Looks very good inside and out
    - Black vinyl sport seats
    - Aftermarket bluetooth enabled audio head unit (needs a new fuse)
    - Working analog dash clock
    - Slick-top coupe (i.e., no leaks and perfect for track)
    - All repairs have been driven for less than 2k miles (see below)
    - New suspension (Bilstein with H&R sport springs)
    - Passes inspection in MA
    - M-tech 1 steering wheel (original wheel included)
    - "Smiley" headlights
    - Car cover, original steering wheel, misc. spare parts included

    Cons:
    - Rattle in exhaust across range of operation (I think it's due to the header pipes vibrating against each other)
    - Fuel gauge is reliable above 1/2 tank, but unreliable below (reserve light works)
    - CEL is illuminated due to dysfunctional O2 sensor (runs fine without it)
    - Dash is cracked and minor interior damage throughout
    - No A/C (parts removed)
    - No power steering (rack requires replacement/rehab)
    - No ABS (parts disconnected)
    - No wiper fluid system (reservoir removed)
    - Hood latch dysfunctional
    - Heater core bypassed

    Work completed since 2018:
    - Replaced shocks and springs in front and rear (Bilstein/H&R)
    - Replaced front sway bar end links, bushings, control arms, and lollipops
    - Replaced front outer tie-rod assemblies
    - Installed braided SS brake fluid conduit in front and rear
    - New brake pads, rotors, and calipers in front (parts for rear included)
    - Replaced valve cover gasket
    - Pressure test engine (no issues)
    - Replaced header flange bolts
    - Modified exhaust piping clearances
    - Installed easy-disconnect flanges on exhaust piping
    - Installed pusher fan (operates automatically on coolant temp)
    - Replaced alternator
    - Removed resonator
    - Installed 9-in magnaflow muffler
    - Replaced damaged front bumper
    - Replaced interior overhead lights
    - Replaced passenger seat-belt receptacle
    - Rebuilt fuel injectors
    - Replaced misc. vacuum hosing to eliminate leaks
    - Replaced clutch master cylinder
    - Replaced clutch slave cylinder
    - Replaced driveshaft
    - Replaced universal joint
    - Replaced faulty ignition coil
    - Replaced radiator and coolant hoses
    - Regular fluid changes (brake, oil, coolant, etc.)

Looks like a good car for a fair price. That said, when selling a car in November in Boston, the “heater core bypassed” feature should show up in the “Cons:” section rather than the “Work done” section. Good luck with sale but transparency is best.

Thanks. I've edited the description for sake of transparency.
