My '93 Volvo 940 Turbo with 172K is up for sale or for trade for an E30 325i 4-door stickshift, preferably not white.
The good:
- Runs perfectly.
- Shifts perfectly.
- Absolutely solid body. No rattles or shakes anywhere. It feels like one solid billet of steel.
- No rust whatsoever.
- Smooth, weighed rack and pinion steering.
- Tan leather interior.
- Pop-up and retract power sunroof.
- Power windows, locks.
- Taut, Euro-style ride and handling.
- Power driver's seat.
- Heated front seats--a wonderful thing on cold mornings.
- God's own turning radius. Seriously. I would not be surprised if you could turn this thing around in the width of three parking spaces. It's shocking.
- A/C blows cold.
- 16" Volvo Hydra rims with 205-60-16s with ~80% rubber remaining.
The mod possibilities:
- Hop up the 2.3 liter turbo. Stock it makes a little over 160hp--the simple addition of a manual boost controller would probably give that number a healthy bump, and that's before a freer-flowing intake and exhaust, bigger turbo, IC, etc...
- Small block chevy. Do a search on YouTube for SBC Volvo swaps and enjoy. The engine bay is massive, the transmission is sourced from Toyota and bulletproof, and the live rear axle is just begging for an upgrade. This swap truly would create the ultimate q-ship sleeper. Eat pony cars for lunch.
- Audio upgrades. Something about the boxiness of these Volvos makes them amplify sound like one big sub box. The trunk is actually made with a shelf that seems expressly designed to accommodate a sub box, and all the doors have grilles readymade for speakers. Awesome potential.
Known issues:
- A few tears on the seats.
- Paint has a few scuffs. It needs a good claybar and wax job.
- Will need new motor mounts eventually as the engine begins to sound somewhat buzzy above ~2.5K rpm.
- Power antenna does not extend.
- One small dent (paintless dent removal size) on passenger side front door.
- Missing ashtray door.
- Driver's side door speaker grille will no longer stay on.
- A/C only blows cold when moving. This is undoubtedly an A/C fan issue I haven't had time to delve into.
