    Need some quick advice please!!!

Hey guys, I want to know what you guys think. I have a friend that wants to sell me their 1989 325i. It's black on black leather, 5 spd, 2 door. He told me the body had about 200,000 miles when he spent about $1700 on rebuilding the engine around the original block. He said he's only driven it about 300 miles since and that he has all his receipts that show that he replaced the timing belt, water pump, oil pan, and A LOT of other stuff. As for the interior, it's all black and in great condition except for a small crack on the dash (which I hear is common with E30's). There is no major body damage to the car except a small dent on the driver's side front fender. I can probably scoop up the car for about $1700-$2000 because he's pretty desperate to sell it because he just purchased a new bimmer and is struggling with payments already.

I've been looking for a clean 89-91 E30 for the past couple weeks and really wanted an Alpine White 5spd 2 door but would be happy to hold on to this black one while I continue to search for my white pony because they seem pretty rare also. I'm thinking of cleaning this one up pretty good and turning it around and re-selling it. What do you guys think I could get for it if I turn it around?

The market sucks for selling any car right now. If the car is clean with all the VINs on the panels and a good carfax then I would say you are getting a good deal. Was the reason for a rebuild a timing belt failure? Generally that means that the car was neglected and you had better check out the suspension very carefully as that is what will need fixed next. A 5 speed 2 door will generally sell better than anything else so I don't think you will loose money on the deal, but you never know how much your going to have to dump into it so I guess that is the risk with any E30 purchase. You buy them because you love them, not thinking you are going to make a profit!
The difference between porcupines and BMWs is that porcupines have the pricks on the outside!
