I am not the original importer... Car started life in Germany... It is a "Gray market" car yet with a US Title (MA) it is 100% legal - I have spoken to Registered Importers regarding this as I wanted to make sure it was a legal car.

Do you have the importation papers? Some states will give out titles to cars that have come through canada without checking for proper importation paperwork. These cars are 100% legal until you get in a wreck and the insurance pays nothing. Just some food for thought on a 25k car.

I am 100% insured through allstate with my Euro VIN and the express information that it was a EURO car. Same coverage as my other vehicles and full disclosure.

Unless you have first hand experience or are an insurance adjustor please refrain from making comments that have no reference.

It is only food for thought if you have proof of an occurance. According to my agent I have nothing to worry about... I have a policy predicated on receipts, etc.

If I didn't have other obligations I'd like to take care of and had some excess cash left I'd actually dump the E90 and DD the touring... I just have too much $$ wrapped up into it to not sell... It is just the wrond DD for me financially at the moment... Although I may go to the bank and see if I can get a personal loan with it as collateral...

But I don't feel right DDing it in NE winters... even the alpinas in NE winters... yeah... she's got to go...

Call a registered importer and ask what it means if you have a grey market car and a title... Also check the DOT website... DOT explicity says they do not "approve" cars they merely have lists of 'importable' cars and it is up to the registered importer to make the car DOT compliant...

But as the Registered importer I spoke to told me that I already had a title there was no reason to "federalize" a car that already had title. I have sent you the name of that Registered Importer - which you can confirm on the DOT site.

If anyone has any questions about the legality of my car please don't hesitate to give me a shout on PM and I will happily point you in the right direction to get your questions answered..

The Short of it:

Original VIN on the Car.

MA Title with that VIN.

Currently Registered in NH - my MA residence was sold and NH is a title exempt state - I brought the MA title the NH DMV to register, they take a copy of the title and hand it back to me if I ever want to sell the car... Just a stupid NH thing - car will be sold with MA title.

Currently inspected in NH - passes all NH Safety requirements
Has Cat and Muffler - US spec motor and should be 50 state compliant emissions.

Insured through allstate. Actual value policy. Value based on receipts less depreciation since restoration work has been done... Frankly if I totaled the car I'd get more $$ for it than when I sell it.
