            Actually thanks to this thread and Ebay I called another Registered importer... (the only one up in Maine - as can be found on the DOT/NHSTA website)...

            They said this (almost word for word)...

            "The reason you have to go through all the DOT BS is in order to get a clean title on the car... Since you already have a title I would say that you are OK."
