Sounds like a sweet Father's Day gift!

With a drivetrain swap, these cars are extremely entertaining. Good luck with your search!

      Thanks!

Someone has to know of one.

There are a bunch on Craigslist, and I'm checking into them, but it would be nice to buy from someone who knows them.

Is this a car you know? Is it yours?

I always worry about rust with an Illinois car...

are you sure you want a 20 year old airbag? i wouldn't count out the 89's, also.

Can you define how much of a "project" you are looking for, and what you'd like for an initial investment? I might know of a M3 that suits your goals/desires.

Well, it's got to be an 'is' no 'e' or 'i'. The factory sport stuff has to be there.

UNHCLL: The e30 M3 would have to be cheap and rust free... hard combo to find, even with no drivetrain. I've thought about buying a high miler that needs TLC and selling the drivetrain, but it's still hard to justify the price difference between the M3 and 325is. Since I'd change drivetrains either way, I could do the 5 lug swap with the very best parts, Z3 or e36 rack, etc and end up with a 'narrow body' M3 for thousands less.

So far I've found a rust-free 1990 325is auto. It's pretty straight, paint is shot (Brilliantrot) and driver's seat split at seams (tan). But it won't start. I think I'll buy it regardless, if only for parts. It's pretty cheap.

Have you checked out a site called www.searchtempest.com ? It gives results in expanding distances from your zip, good way to search all craigslists.

                              Good luck.
