Thanks! I tried Roundel (online - not print) and didn't have much success. The print edition might be a good path for me to explore if the dealership isn't able to find a buyer.

I'd have to agree that the $10k in body work doesn't sound great. If it weren't for the body shop manager connection, it would definitely be titled "Salvaged". Though, it looks fantastic.id say deal with the hassle of putting the kid in the back seat, its a nice beautiful car and theres no way in heck you can get get more than 10k for a 318 vert, even in that condition. and the note about 10k in insurance work doesn't sound great about how straight the body may be. you'll be sad for ever if you sell it.
Not to burst anyone's bubble, but is this a better value right here: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/cto/2149204141.htmlLast edited by BeLzEbUb58; 01-11-2011, 08:13 PM.Comment

Not really - the paint job on the rest of the car was elective surgery, so to speak, and was not included in the repair work. An adjuster for the insurance did in fact come out and deem that based on its appraised value prior to the fender bender, the car was nowhere near being salvaged. The moral of this story is - if you sink a lot of time and money into fixing up a car, be sure to have it appraised just in case.I'd have to agree that the $10k in body work doesn't sound great. If it weren't for the body shop manager connection, it would definitely be titled "Salvaged". Though, it looks fantastic.

As for the better value - I actually agree. If someone were in the market for a driver's car, the $8,500 specimen would be my choice as well. For something that one wants to add to a collection of pristine cars, however, and for something that is show quality, I would say mine would be the better choice. Again, it all depends on what someone's budget and priorities are.
There are plenty of people that owned or aspired to own cars like mine (or the one in the craigslist ad) back in the day that can now afford to make that a reality. They are older, financially secure, and aren't necessarily bargain hunting. Some will want the satisfaction of building it themselves, while others who can't or don't want to go through that, will be looking for a turn-key example. That's the kind of buyer that I can see being interested in my car, and the kind of buyer that seems to frequent the dealership where it is now on display.

I think this is a car that needs to be garaged and then sell in about 15 years. 1971 2002 tii or turbo in this type of condition is getting 50K+ in the northwest.Comment

2002tii is more like an e30 m3, and the turbo is closer to a sport evo m3, 318ic would be a standard 2002, what does a salvage clean one go for?
Beautiful car, but like others have said 18k for a salvage title car is hard to swallow.Comment

You can take an E30, and put on a $500 paint job and have everyone ridicule your car, or you can spend top dollar on flawless work and have most people give you props but a handful of clowns make salvage accusations. Look - I get it. You may not have the financial means, industry connections and motivation to build a car like this (you need all three if you are going to be able to pull it off). It's cool. No one is going to judge you for it. But for those that can and do, and for the buyers for whom $20k isn't that big of a deal (new Hyundai money in most circles) they may see things differently.
Here is the VIN: WBABA7311NEJ12395
Please post the salvage carfax when you get a chance.

David, this car is beautiful, hope you get every penny you're asking for. I just bought a 318ic schwarz and I swear when I saw your pics i saved all of them in my computer and will strive to get it to look like yours.
Be patient and surely someone will come around with the money and appreciation for it.
Good Luck!Comment
