    GA - Beautiful Spec E30 or DE Track Car - 1988 325is

    1988 325is track car

    For 140 Build Pictures :http://s875.photobucket.com/albums/a...rackCarJunkie/

This car is almost too clean to be a track car. Buying this car will save you countless hours of work and money. Whether you do the work yourself or pay some else, it would be nearly impossible to build this car for what I am asking. I am not trying to make money, just get it off my hands.

This is a track ONLY car and has no title. If you would like to go through the trouble in acquiring a title from the state, please be my guest. I never attempted to do so because I never intended to use this car on the street. I have an open trailer with new tires and I am willing to negotiate a price to include it with the car.

I am selling this car because I have two track cars and only need one. I will most likely keep whichever car does not sell. My other car is also an e30 and will be posted within the next few days. It is in similar mechanical condition, but does not have the same finish quality. Both are great, but I only need one.

    Engine/Exhaust:
2.5L “I” engine with less than 100k miles, according to previous owner.
There was less than 10% compression difference, 140-160psi across all cylinders.
Recent tune up, timing belt and fluids
    Poly mounts
Custom exhaust from the manifolds back with a Dynomax muffler

    Transmission / Differential:
    Shifts perfectly crisp
    Redline fluid
    New dive shaft center bearing
    3.73 LSD with redline fluid
    Poly mounts

    Brakes / Wheels / Tires:
Brake cooling - aluminum brake backing plates, temp rated hose and adaptors
Stainless braded lines all the way around
    Hawk HT-10 pads
ATE Super Blue fluid - just flushed!
    Team Dynamics Racing 15x7
    Used Toyo RA-1’s

    Suspension (spec E30 stuff):

    Suspension Techniques Sway Bars
Sway bar reinforcements (weld in to RTA’s)
H&R Race Springs (the red ones)
    Bilstein Sport shocks
    Poly RTA bushings
    Poly rear sub-frame bushings
    Shock mounts
    Front camber plates
Delrin off-set front control arm bushings
Control arms and tie rods came from a donor car, but are in excellent condition. It looks like they were just replaced.
    Sparco strut tower brace

    Interior/Safety:

Entirely stripped, cleaned, sanded and painted red - see pictures
6 point Kirk bolt in cage. Proper hardware was used on all mounting points to meet NASA requirements.
    Long Acre rear view mirror
    Sparco Pro 2000 driver’s seat
E30 sport passenger seat - not installed but comes with car
    Sparco 6 point harness

    Body/Paint/Trim:

Considering this is a track car, I went a little overboard on the body. Countless hours went into the paint and body work. You have to see it in person to appreciate it.

The car started as a clean rust free shell with a damaged passenger fender. Until the fender was hit, this car was clean and straight with all original body panels. I can send pictures of every body panel that show matching vin numbers upon request.

    The body work process included:
    Entire car was block sanded
    Painted with high build primer
    Block sanded again
    Painted with epoxy primer (sealer)
    Block sanded again
Base and clear coat were sprayed and wet sanded at Bavarian Auto Body.

All trim was refinished or replaced. All refinished black plastic trim was cleaned with soap and water, prepped with high quality SEM plastic prep, sprayed with SEM adhesion promoter, and painted with SEM Trim Black. Refinished or replaced trim includes but is not limited to:
    Front and rear bumper trim
    Grills
    Kidneys
Headlight trim rings (painted silver and clear coated)
    Front valence vent trim
    Cowl vents
    Shadow line bumpers
Side window and drip rail trim
    Roundels
    Front and rear window trim
    Sill or scuff plates
Hood, door, and trunk weather strip

    Extras/Options:

This car is very close to being ready for spec E30 and could be legal for a track day with most sanctioning bodies in its current condition. If they you are ready for racing, I am willing to install the items listed below at an addition negotiated price. I am also willing to install a full weld in cage at an additional cost. If you are serious about any of these additional items, please send me a PM and we can privately discuss a price.

Known Items Needed For NASA SpecE30:
Updated harnesses (current harness is legal for NASA DE)
    Seat back support
Second door bar on the passenger side
    Kill switch
    Battery hold down
    Window Net
    Center Net
    Spec exhaust
    Series decals

    Price: $8,900 obo

Thank you for looking. Please feel free to PM me.

Thank you, I agree.... I guess Mthrizzle doesn't realize how much money, time and energy goes into a nice build.

Even if you do all your own work, it is difficult to build a race ready SE30 for under $10k. Add in body work, bells and whistles, the price just keeps climbing.

          Cheers

Those eyebolts you have the harness attached to look like the are just standard bent over Home Depot eyebolts (unwelded) and not the proper cast ones

I agree they should be changed at some point. Thank you for bringing that up. I have seen the bent eyebolt style pass tech in the past, but I am not sure what I current regs are.

During a quick look at the NASA CCR I found this in 15.5.9
"All mounting hardware should be SAE grade five (5) or better. Large diameter
mounting washers should be used to spread the load. Bolting through floor
panels etc. is not acceptable without required washers."

I am not sure if the bolts are grade 5 or not, but I did use large thick washers under the floor pans.

Either way, new mounting hardware is an easy fix.
