Well, I am definitely against stripping apart an otherwise useable car, so I'll be doing my homework. Unfortunately I cannot weld, nor do I know a welder. And I won't be towing it back and forth to different shops just to see if they can fix it.
But if it can be fixed, it will be most definitely fixed. I could use a hard top.87 325iC 90 325iC 88 325iC 87 325i 87 325iS 87 325eSComment

My biggest concern is not fixing it to be driveable, but how to fix it so that never happens again. I don't know what happened to you when it broke the first time, but I can't imagine the problems I'd have with the subframe snapping loose on I-80. And before I decide if the car is really safe to be driven in the future, I'll definitely be talking to some experienced automotive welder types. I'm sure we all here on the forum are hoping that it can be fixed, but I'll need to do some serious homework before I put my or anyone else's life in danger.
Ok that might be a tinge melodramatic, but still, losing a subframe at high speed can really ruin someone's day.
But anyway, I'm probably getting ahead of myself. Thanks again, hope to see you this weekend.

A simple reinforcement plate setup would have that thing golden in no time. Rent a wire-feed welder, read the instructions, practice on some scrap metal till you feel comfortable then go for it.Comment

Thanks, I've been to one of the Fair Oaks Borders meets so far, as soon as my school schedule and e30's workingness agrees to fall in line I'll make more of a habit of doing the meets, maybe even 1 or 2 in the east bay.
I'll be around, anyway.87 325iC 90 325iC 88 325iC 87 325i 87 325iS 87 325eSComment
