1988 325IS FS in Bend, OR

Up for sale is my '88 325IS

233,000 miles but in Great shape for a 22 year old car. It's my daily driver and occasional autocross car.
Originally an automatic, converted to 5 speed about 40k ago.

All the work was done by a previous owner (mechanic) but here's the highlights:
    5 speed conversion
    Sport springs.
    upgraded computer chip
brand new battery. (I did that)
premium sound system includes a JVC head unit and Pioneer speakers with two Alpine amplifiers and a subwoofer mounted in the trunk.
    Tucked bumpers
    catalytic converter delete

Cosmetically, it shines up well except for the hood. No rust anywhere. The interior, originally tan, was dyed black so there are some issues with the carpet and the back seat. The front seats are both still tan. The drivers seat needs help, but the passenger side is in fair shape.

15 inch wheels plus two sets of mounted snow tires. One set of new studs on the original 14 inch BMW "basket weaves" with painted black centers and one set of worn out studless tires on beat up 15 inch BMW "IX basket weaves".

I'm asking for $2950 on craigslist, but am open to any offers.

email me at aerocam@bendcable.com if interested or if you want more info.

Had a buyer from Seattle, but he won't respond to emails anymore and stuck me with the bill for his pre-purchase inspection, (so far).

The car is still available for $2250 without the snowtires.

          Thanks,
          Carl

              ^^^ This.

Maybe I will fly up there and drive it back down.

Vehicle history would be good too, how many previous owners, any accidents?

I'm a little worried about the cat delete, because if I flew up there, and drove it down, it wouldn't pass smog in CA...

For now, the sale of this car is on hold. My wife just totaled her car so this might not be our "extra" car anymore.

Mechanically, if I had the money and time this is what needs to be fixed.

                AC needs to be recharged
"brake lining" warning light comes on intermttantly even with new pads and sensor installed
Front seats are in fair condition. The passenger side is ok but the driverside bolsters are coming apart.
Previous owner (PO) painted the chrome trim red around the windows (it looks fine from 10ft away) but I would replace it with new trim that was powder coated. Either red to match the paint or black. (I'm not big on chrome)
Left highbeam occasionally blows a fuse. I couldn't find any obvious reasons why.
Central locking system works great from the trunk but not so well from the drivers door.
The right half of the instrument lights are out. Spedometer and gas guage are still illuminated.
Drivers seat recline works but the release that slides the seat forward for rear seat access is jury rigged. Passenger side works fine.
Without the snow tires, it will need a spare tire.
Tires are worn and should be replaced fairly soon.

                Pre-purchase inspection revealed:

Engine oil pan and valve cover leaking
                Trans pan leaking
Rear bushings on front control arms are torn and need to be replaced
                rear sway bar bushing cracking
                engine running rich
                Belt cracking
RF wheel has a little play
There are two holes in the trans bell housing
a wire is holding the idle hose in place to the throttle body

Most of the things that need to be fixed are cosmetic or are things that don't bother me during everyday driving. It also has a clean title. No wrecks that I know of.

Original owners picked it up in Germany drove around Europe then had it shipped back to Oregon.
2nd owner bought it with 18k miles and kept it untill the auto trans went out at 190k, then sold it to her mechanic.
3rd owner (mechanic) installed a five speed, lowered the suspension, tucked the bumpers, painted the chrome, upgraded the computer chip, installed the stereo and an alarm (which I have never used), and dyed the interior black.
4th owner (same lady as the 2nd) missed her car and bought it back. after a couple years she sold it to me. and I've had it for the last three years. Only work I've done is brake pads and rear calipers.

                Thanks for your interest

Forgot about the timing belt. I assume that the guy who swapped the trans changed the belt at that time. About 40k ago but I have no evidence of that.
