I've got an '87 325is 5 speed and an '89 325i auto. The '87 has unknown mileage (broken odo) but I swapped in an M20 from a '90 325i and got the cluster with a working odo, that reads around 185,000. The '89 has around 220,000 on a broken odo, I also replaced with a new working odo that currently reads 189,000 or so.

I bought the '89 about a year ago with a bad transmission hoping to swap it out and have a really nice DD. Unfortunately, I just can't get it working. I swapped in a supposedly good trans but it didn't seem like the torque converter was mating up with it (I couldn't get the torque converter that originally came with the trans so I reused the one in the car). I took it back out and tried another torque converter, but still no luck. I'm tired of messing with it, so it's up for sale.
The '87 has been my DD for almost 6 years now, and it's been a good car, but it has a few issues. It had a really cheap respray before I bought it, and it's flaking off in several areas. There are also a few dents around the body. The interior is a little rough, mainly the driver's seat. The engine normally runs great and very strong, except it's just started running a little rough from idle to 1500 and 3500 to 4500 rpm's. Probably a vacuum leak, but I don't really feel like trying to find it. The transmission has a bad 3rd gear syncro, so it grinds going into gear. The shifter bushings need to be replaced.
The good, however, is that about 2 years ago it got a totally new suspension. Bilstein sport shocks/H&R sport springs all around, new control arms, powerflex urethane control arm bushings, new sway bar bushings/links, IE rear subframe and trailing arm bushings, new rear shock mounts, new front strut bearings, new CV shafts, and new rear wheel bearings.
Also, I replaced the timing belt/tensioner/water pump about a year ago.
Neither car has working A/C. I believe the '89 just needs a charge, but the '87 may need a compressor.
I'd like to just sell both of these and buy myself something that needs a little less attention and is a solid DD.
Asking 3300 negotiable, and also open to trades.
Is anybody interested?
