WTB: M42 powered E30

I'm hunting for an M42 powered E30 that is mechanically sound and in decent condition otherwise. I'd like to use it as a daily driver to keep the miles off my other car. I've been hunting for a few weeks, found a few decent deals but always end up finding them a little late and they are either gone or the seller wants too much. I'm looking to spend around $2k but would go higher for the right E30. 2 or 4 doors doesn't matter, would prefer a manual trans.....no convertibles though. I'd also be open to a salvage title car, or something that is needing some TLC (but not rust buckets).

A buddy has one here in good condition. 91 318is... exterior is delphin gray I believe. Interior is black and in good condition. He's asking $2300. I can get more info for you if interested. The car is in San Antonio.

Thanks for the heads up! I saw that a few days ago, looks clean but that is definitely a long drive for me.

I drove two today in Indy. One is a 4 door 318i that was beat up a bit but overall in decent shape. They were asking a reasonable price, but I would guess it would need $700-$1000 put into it to get it in shape. Second one is a nice 318is that has potential but I think was priced too high. There is rust everywhere, not really big patches but lots of small spots. The driver's side door is starting to rust a lot. Cloth seats in decent shape but drivers side was ripped. Windshield chipped, exhaust rusted out, tires new, an a small oil leak. I was interested but couldn't justify the price....

The search still continues. I'm starting to think I'm going to hunt for another car to stay in my $2k budget.
