Okay, I posted a while back with a feeler thread. Now this thing is really for sale.
The basics:
1987 BMW 325. Eta motor.
Odo reads 95k - but it stopped in 2003 according to AutoCheck.
If you get nerdy and figure average mileage, it works out to ~130k. I don't believe that, and guesstimate ~160k.
Five gears, three pedals, as intended by all deities and BMW.
According to the P.O., recent clutch and brakes, alternator, stainless brake lines, tie rod ends. According to me (aka I can say "it has these things" and be certain) - new slave cylinder, center driveshaft bearing and replaced AFM.
The details:
So I bought this car back in August with the intent of having a fun beater here at school. It has fulfilled that goal with flying colors. I've decided to start looking for a nicer BMW since I'm graduating soon and want to move on from this one.
Cosmetically, it's uh... lacking, one might say. She was originally Delphin Gray - but that was looking pretty bad. As a college student with limited funds and only slightly more sense than money, I called some friends and we spray painted it. Color code is Rustoleum Blue Metallic, and you will receive "touch up paint" with your purchase. The hood and trunk are pretty splotchy, the rest of the car looks not-too-bad from like... 25 feet.
Mechanically, it's mostly there. There's a fuel starve issue here-n-there. It isn't entirely debilitating, so I just power through it and all is well. It leaks a little bit of coolant. Check Control always tells you it's low, which is only sometimes a lie. I top it off every 3-4 weeks and it runs fine.
Has hot heat and non-functional AC. Power windows work. Locks do not lock/unlock from the outside - it needs new lock cylinders. The P.O. called this "liberating" and I agree. Besides, who's going to steal this? The hand-crank sunroof (yeeeehaw!) works fine but leaks in heavy rain. I duct-taped it shut since the Shenandoah Valley was graced with some recent monsoons. You'll appreciate the lack of mildew stench as a result. Un-tape at will.
It has/had power steering, but the tensioner decided to not tension any more. So, I pulled the belt and at the moment, it's a "manual steering" car. Not really a big deal, and the belt's in the trunk if you want to put it back on.
Apparently the ECU has been upgraded. It takes premium now, and has a higher redline/fuel cut. Doesn't help too much with the Eta motor, since there isn't much for it to give past a point anyway, but the increased timing is nice I suppose. I have the stock Motronics box that will come with the car as well.
Is this "the one" to buy for Muffy's 17th birthday, since she's always wanted a BMW (pleaseeee Daddy?!) -- helllll no. Is this "the one" to buy and drive to work? Well, no. Is this "the one" to take on a date? Eh, probably not the first date, I took it on a second date and we're still on speaking terms.
Is this "the one" if you want a cheap, solid-enough beater to drive around town with up to four friends in marginal comfort? Why yes. Yes it is.
Looking for $800 OBO. I'm in Harrisonburg, VA.
