Hey guys I am sadly selling my 1987 E30, BMW 325i.
I bought the car over the summer as a project to turn into my daily driver. The car was stored by its previous owner for 5 years because he bought a new car and didn’t want to get rid of it.
The car has 146,000 miles on it and has a lot of the original options that were available. It is a 5-speed manual transmission. I have two brand new sets of tires for it. Right now Continental Extreme Winter Contacts (currently #1 rated winter tire) are mounted on the wheels and for summer tires I have Falken Ziex 512 all seasons. The Falkens have roughly 7,000 miles on them while the Conti’s have only 1,000 miles on them. The interior is in impeccable condition. The rear seats and the passenger seat have no rips or tears whatsoever and the driver’s seat has only one rip, along the stitching under your butt. The tear is so minimal I don’t ever notice it. A/C does work but there is a leak in the system somewhere that I haven’t found yet. It has the rear passenger head rests, 13 button OBC, original BMW floor mats and the dash has NO cracks in it whatsoever. It also has the full tool kit.
What I have done since I bought it (aka the good):
Valve adjustment
New Head gasket, oil pan gasket, head bolts and the whole gasket kit from Bav Auto.
While I was in there I cleaned the hell out of the head so that valves, ports etc looked almost brand new.
New Timing belt
New Timing belt tensioner pulley
New Water pump
New in-tank fuel pump
New in-line fuel pump (before replacing them I emptied the fuel tank and thankfully found no rust in there)
The majority of the hoses and all of the belts have been replaced
New guibo and center support bearing
New engine mount
New struts, shocks (KYB stock replacement cartridges) and respective mounts/bump stops/dust boots.
New fuel and air filters.
New high-performance wire set from BAV Auto
New plugs
Cap and rotor looked good so I cleaned them up and put them back on.
New Idle Air Control Valve
New Accelerator Cable
New shift knob
I flushed the brake system and filled it with all new fluid, while I was there I replaced the bleed screws in the front with “speed bleeders” aka one way/one man bleeder valves.
The clutch has plenty of life left on it…. I inspected that when I pulled the engine for a full inspection.
The bad:
The transmission mounts need to be replaced and are causing a slight shutter at low speeds under high load.
I also havent had an alignment done after I replaced the front struts so the toe is off slightly.
There are lots of little scratches on the paint from it sitting in his garage for five years, one dent on the passenger side front quarter panel and only one small spot of rust on the passenger’s front door.
I also have a set of sport seats and a rear plastic bumper (same bronzit body color) I will throw in with the car. I was planning on recovering the seats but ran out of time.
All in all I spent a lot of time and money this past summer getting this car into a reliable daily driver condition. Everything is functioning except for the power antenna (still works with radio just doesn’t go up and down like almost every other e30 out there), the rear defrost is intermittently working and the passenger rear door light switch is bent and therefore doesn’t work to turn on the interior lights.
I am selling the car because I realized while doing this project, I would rather put the kind of money I spent on this car into a newer DD instead and have an e30 track rat.
