    1989 vert . . . what's it worth ??

1989 325i white convertible, dark blue leather interior, brand new blue top, 5 speed, 208K. Has original clutch, Timing belt has been replaced once. Garaged, no rust, new tires on bottlecaps. 2 years since safety/emissions inspection. (been sitting in garage)
Claims to be original owner with service records. Asking 3K obo.
Sight unseen - going to see it on Thursday.
    Any input is appreciated.

So, i guess its alpine white II with indigo leather. Sounds like its need a TB but when was it changed? New tires that have been sitting for 2 years?

Has it been turned over in 2yrs? If it is the original owner you should have all the records available.

Price a bit much for a DB cabrio but if the interior and top are in great shape,$2500 but that is sight unseen. The owner prolly could get more but not from me.

New tires, meh. New top, depending on quality is a check. Interior condition could really chop the price. Most concerning is the mileage with only one TB change.

At that price, my vert was in much better condition with new tires, recent body and motor work.

Does VA require inspections at this age? MD can register these as historic, negating emissions and inspections.

Take it for a drive but let them know a mechanic will charge several hundred dollars in parts and labor for the almighty TB. I would expect $2000 OTD with that in mind.

Read the E30 buyers guide. And work on chipping away at the price. The recent snow should help, too. Who would ever want a vert in this kind of climate!

Safety inspection only in VA. Sounds good, I'll start at a low ball 2K and see what happens. I'll keep you posted.
          Thanks for the responses.

Update: Car hasn't been started in over 2 years. Interior is in bad shape, misc dents throughout - and he's standing firm on the 3K. I wouldn't consider this car for even 2K. Wasted time - could have acomplished this via e-mail.

              Wow, how nice of them!

I had a guy like that when I was looking for my current E30. Drove about 130 miles round trip to see it. "Yeah, its real clean and has spotless interior", so off i go with cash in hand. Well, the interior was spotless, but his wife had dumped the car in a ditch one time and it torqued the frame real nice. No mention of that, and he was firm on the $2500 anyway. Morons...
