'88 325 coupe- E36 M3 5 lug swap with tein coilovers
SOLD
Hey everyone,
Up for sale is my 1988 BMW 325 with a manual 5 speed transmission. It is delphin gray with cardinal red and black interior. It has an e36 M3 5 lug swap with staggered 17" M Motorsport wheels. It drives very well and is very smooth all around. I believe the car started its life as a automatic 325 until it became someones project. I purchased the car in modified form that it is in now, just needed some maintanence.
Exterior:
The body of the car its pretty good minus some minor body damage that occured in the front of the vehicle from the previous owner. I purchased the car right after it had a collision with something. The front bumper is pushed in a bit and both front fenders would need replacing to make the car perfect again. I have been driving it the way it is and hasnt affected the driving performance of the car but it would be nice to get it fixed and paint the car. The Delphin Gray paint, like most e30's, isnt looking so hot after 23 years. The clear coat has flaked off on most of the trunk, roof, and hood. Also, the front windsheild has about a 8" crack in it. It isn't that bad but I dont know if it can be filled in or not.
There is an OEM M-tec II rear spoiler on the car and it also has OEM Euro Ellipsoid headlights in the front as well with the HID bulbs and ballasts.
Interior:
In my opinion, the interior of the car is in pretty good condition. It has sports seats that are solid. The seat backs are tight and are not worn out at all like most are. There is a 1" tear in the front drivers side and passengers side seats but besides that, there are no other rips. The leather in the seats is a bit dried out and worn but still in pretty good condition. The door panels are immaculate and in perfect condition. The dash has one small crack above the glove box but isnt that bad. There is a Sony Bloothtooth headunit installed in the car and there are after market speakers as well. Also has a M3 illuminated shifter as well.
Engine, transmission and drivetrain:
The engine is a 2.5 liter inline M20. It runs very strong and smooth. It pulls very hard and hasn't become sluggish at all. Again, I believe that this car started out as a automatic, and has been converted over to a 5-speed. The job was seamless and the only reason I could tell is because of the over-drive switch mounted behind the gas pedal that the auto's came with. The ECU was bad when I bought the car, causing the car to idle high so I replaced that with a 173 ECU from an IS and it idles perfect now. There is an aftermarket intake cone filter installed. The engine is stock except for the filter and ECU swap. I had just cleaned the whole intake system, including airflow meter, trying to figure out why the car was idling high until I found out it was the ECU. The differential in the car was swapped as well with a 2.93 Limited slip. There is a very smooth short throw shifter installed with new bushings as well. The shifter isnt notchy at all and is VERY smooth and isnt to aggressive either. Brand new battery was installed about a month ago.
Suspension and brakes:
This is what sets this car apart from others in the way it handles. It has a full 5 lug conversion with E36 M3 Tein basic coilovers. The front has e36 M3 rotors and brakes, '96+ M3 control arms and hubs, '95 M3 offset control arm bushings, and E36 M3 Tein Coilovers. The rear has E36 318ti trailing arms and hubs for proper wheel positioning with E36 brakes and E36 M3 Tein coilovers. The car is very stiff obviously from the Tein coilovers and handles absolutely amazing. The car doesnt handle bumps very well anymore. Right now, the front coilovers are lowered for a more aggressive look and the rears I had to raise to fit the staggered M motorsports. I had to raise the car about an inch so it wouldnt rub. The E46 330 wheels fit fine with the car being an inch lower. Becuase of the 5-lug conversion, the abs sensors were never converted so the ABS is not functioning.
Wheels and tires:
The car comes with 2 sets of wheels and tires. The set on the car now are '96+ staggered 17" M Motorsports. It also comes with white 17" E46 330i wheels, I dont know the name of them. Both sets do have curb rash on them and could use a refinishing if that is your concern. The front tires on both sets are good and the rears on both sets could use new tires.
I purchased this car a couple months ago after the front body damage had occured. I had to tow the car back since the ECU was bad and idling high and it needed a new control arm an CAB. My origional plan was to fix the car up, replace fenders and paint the whole thing. I just started a new job and my schedule is a lot more busy that it used to be. I really need to finish my SpecE30 race car before the spring so I decided that I really dont have the time for this and could use the money for a sweet new paint job on the racecar!
