SOLD!
Selling off another one of the "collection"; my Cosworth 16v Benz. Easily the coolest car I've owned, but it never gets driven, and I'm wanting to start pinching pennies towards an E30 M3.
'86 190e 2.3-16. 172k miles, dogleg 5-speed manual.
Exterior
The body of the car is in really great shape overall. Paint has it's flaws (stone chips on the front airdam, thinned out on the rear wing and on the trim under the taillights), but is very presentable otherwise. There are two dents on the hood where a tree limb fell across it, but both can be removed via paintless dent repair. Otherwise, there is hardly a ding to be found on the entire car. One small crack in the plastic on the right corner of the rear bumper. Passenger-side skirt has been scuffed and touched up. No rot under the arches or flares as these cars are commonly known for.
The underside of the car is extremely clean, and rot-free. The only flaw is just in front of the rear wheels, where the floor pan juts down. The previous owner drug over a speed bump, and smushed/tore a couple inch section on each side. Sounds far worse than it is, but I'll get it on a lift and snap some pictures since it's difficult to describe.
Brand new euro headlights were added less than 200 miles ago to replace the original US units.
Interior
The interior of the car is beautiful with very few issues. The driver's seat has a split seam on the bottom (pictured), but is otherwise very clean. The dash is cracked in a couple spots, and the panel that houses the defrost/antenna/sunroof switches cracked, allowing the sunroof switch to get pushed back a bit (all quite common issues.) I have a *mint*, crack-free dash that goes with the car. The small fuse in the back of the gauge cluster needs to be replaced for the cluster lighting to function, but the rest of the gauge cluster and dash all work, including the odometer. The accessory gauges also function correctly, and shockingly, the lap timer does not suffer from the usual "bleeding" screen these develop.
The rear seats are perfect, and don't suffer from the usual splits near the headrests. The driver's rear door card has a very small section of material pulling away from the panel, but it's an easy fix I may take care of this weekend. Passenger seat is pretty much flawless, carpet, headliner, rear deck are all perfect as well. All the Zebrano wood is original and in very good shape, and a Momo wheel has been added to compliment the original trim.
The power seats function perfectly, right down to the power-adjust headrests. Sunroof works perfectly, all power windows operate smoothly. HVAC system works as it should, but the a/c is currently in need of a re-charge. Original cruise-control functions flawlessly!
Mechanicals
Runs and drives well with firm, communicative steering and suspension. Brakes are excellent; I'm not sure what kind of pads are on the car, but they have tremendous bite, and good feedback. The motor runs strong, and the CIS injection is in surprisingly good condition. The car starts readily with a gentle prod of the gas pedal, idles perfect, and has a sharp throttle response. No chain rattles or super loud lifters. The transmission is in great shape with no worn synchros or gear whine. Limited slip differential is tight and silent.
The self-leveling system has been disabled and removed in favor of a more sporting Bilstein/Vogtland combo. A factory SLS block-off was used on the head. The pump, canister, and rear accumulators were removed, and are boxed with the original SLS shocks which will all go with the car. The original hard-lines are still on the car, making re-installation a breeze, if someone desired.
The car is due for tranny/motor mounts; they're old, and make shifting smoothly a chore. I've ordered a replacement trans mount, which will either be included with the car, or be installed if I can make the time.
The shift linkage was completely disassembled and rebuilt with new delrin bushings from the group-buy on 190rev. The difference is astounding, and the shifter feels very positive.
The car has a slew of new replacement parts, as well as a few aftermarket bits. Here's the easy-reading list;
-new sachs clutch
-new pressure plate
-new throwout bearing
-resurfaced flywheel
-new clutch slave
-new clutch master
-new exhaust mid-section+ catalytic converter
-new electro-magnetic fan switch
-new correct non-resistor spark plugs
-new euro headlights
-new front upper strut mounts
-new Bilstein sport shocks
-new Vogtland sport springs
-new Delrin shifter bushings
The previous owner replaced the exhaust, and had the generic DTM muffler added. This is my biggest issue with the car. The muffler isn't actually very loud, but looks terrible in my opinion, and sounds "tinny". There's a rattle from the exhaust near the cat converter that, while not particularly loud, is beyond annoying.
According to the p.o., the a/c compressor was new, and the water-pump was replaced as well, but I have no documentation/receipts to confirm.
The car is sitting on a set of 16x7.5 AMG wheels in pretty good shape. The clearcoat on the machined lips is chipping, but strips off easily to reveal a clean, polished surface underneath. I have two more spare wheels in their original AMG boxes, for a total of 6.
The car needs new tires. The tires on the car now are old, hard, and dry-rotting. Tires are an absolute must.

Flaw in driver's seat;

Flaw in rear door card (top left) camera lens was dirty, and makes thhe door card look faded, which it is not.

Thin paint on rear wing;

Crack in plastic;

Hood damage;

Overall, this 190 is a beautiful car, and in better-than-average condition for the year, mileage, and model. Though not at the same rocketing pace of the E30 M3's, these cars are finally appreciating in value as well. This particular model is a great driver, and attracts a lot of (positive) attention. With very little effort, it could be a real show-stopper that continues to hide it's age well for years to come.
I'm looking to sell the car outright, though I will entertain a trade for a clean 318is. Selling for $5900 or best reasonable offer.
Car is located in Charlotte, NC.
