Well time for the project to go! Picked up a rough 1985 318i about 4 months ago and wanted to turn it into a fun project car but with work and school and my girlfriend there just isnt time for it anymore. I would like $1200.00 for it as it sits (which is less than I spent on the suspension alone). Car is located in Oak Harbor Washington which is about 2hrs north of Seattle.
The interior of the car was nasty from being neglected so I removed all carpet, all sound deadening and the seats. After cleaning all the crap out of the car I sprayed the floorpan with some textured truck bedliner to reduce glare from the silver paint and add a bit of traction for the feet since the carpet is not in the car anymore. Any and all excess trim bits or panels are in the car except for the front door cards and the dash. Comes with a driver seat but its in sore shape and I would replace it with a better condition one. The trunk is stripped out and coated in the same bedliner as the floorpan (mostly because I had a few extra cans of the stuff)
Exterior was in really rough shape, looks like the previous owner sideswiped a tree and did some damage to the passenger door and the rear fender which included ripping off the gas cap door. The clear coat was toast on all flat surfaces. I sanded the car down to the original base primer, re shot primer and then applied 3 coats of satin black paint. Its a cheap garage paint job but it looks a ton better than it did when I got the car. I used to lay paint for a living and this isnt my best work but I would not say its terrible by any means. It came out a lot cleaner than a rattle can job ever would thats for sure, and with the body damage down the right side I didnt see the point in giving it a top dollar coat. Other than that the exterior is all stock, no lip or skirts or rear wing or anything like that.
Like I said I wanted it to be a fun weekend/project car so I spent about 1500 on suspension. I went to TurnerMotorsports and bought the NASA Pro Racing Spec E30 Suspension Kit as described by them "The NASA Pro Racing Spec E30 Suspension Kit consists of H&R E30 Race Springs, Bilstein Sport Shocks, Suspension Techniques sway bar / swaybar Kit, TMS Front Subframe Reinforcement Kit, Rear Sway Bar Reinforcement Kit, Rear Sway Bar Lower Link Reinforcement Kit and aluminum and rubber rear shock mounts. 100% legal suspension for use in NASA Spec E30 class" http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-41...nsion-kit.aspx This kit retails for $1342.95 in addition to that I picked up the KMAC Camber/Caster plates which list for $314.95.
I installed the front and rear suspension including the camber plates and front sway all that is left is the rear sway bar (still brand new with hardware in the bag) before I got pulled away from the car and had to let it sit. I also installed the later model front spindles to use the larger diameter struts so I could stick with the Billy Sports since no one seems to have the smaller diameter Billy Sports in stock any longer. I got them from the JY and as it turns out the front right one needs a wheel bearing so that is something that will have to be done before the car is daily driveable.
The engine is just the M10 and it ran just fine with the odo reading 185xxx but it hasnt ever moved since I got the car. I removed the AC since the compressor was seized and dumped the PS aswell. I planned to swap in something better just ran out of time and money and time haha.
I went out to start it yesterday and the battery is dead but its a brand new one I picked up the day I bought the car, my dumb ass left the door cracked and the dome light drained it. The car will come with any and all E30 parts I have but that isnt a very long list of parts since most of the stock parts that came off the car were in rough shape and I tossed them.
I am asking 1200 for the car as it is with the suspension including the yet to be installed rear sway and if I can find it the 75mm stud conversion kit which was about 60-75 bucks. I would like the car gone asap because I would like it to be worked on rather than just sitting in my garge over the winter. This is less than the cost of the suspension not including the camber plates not including shipping and not including installation. Its a loss on my end because I paid 600 for the car originally but I never planned on making money off of the sale. I am not all that flexible on the price since I dont have to sell it. Its a great deal at this price. I reccomend showing up with a trailer since the wheel bearing is making some awful noises and the battery is dead. I am sure I could get that charged but I dont like the idea of anyone driving it any considerable distance until the problem is fixed.
Pictures will be taken for those who want them and of what they want to see such as interior or exterior or suspension and I will email them. The best way to get in touch with me is to call or text 757-846-3617.
Feel free to ask any questions and I will answer them to the best of my understanding.
Took a few pictues today after I found my camera!
Quick good/bad
Good:
Brand new LCA's with bushings
Brand new HR Race Springs
Brand new Billy Sports
Brand new SS Sway bars 22/19mm (rear still needs install)
Brand new KMAC Camber/Caster plates
Brand new air filter/oil filter/spark plugs/cap and rotor/wires (less than 50 miles)
Brand new battery (less than 4 months old only 50 miles on it but I left the dome light on so its dead)
Bad:
A/C delete (some may not like this so its in the bad catagory)
P/S delete (some may not like this so its in the bad catagory)
Needs wheel bearing or has a seized caliper, there is a metal on metal sound from the front right wheel
M10...
Non LSD...
Minor body modifications to passenger side of the car thanks to a tree
Other:
Gutted and cleaned up interior
Bed liner sprayed on the floor boards to reduce glare, all wires put back into original locations
Gutted trunk with same bed liner (I had a few extra cans and thought why not...
Clean title in my name
Reccomended towing it to new owners house until the wheel bearing/caliper issue is taken care of
Pics... The car has been sitting so its dusty the paint is only 2 months old and even so any think that looks out of place is probably just dust.
