My IX has nearly 172k on the clock. The car is a very light silver, I have never actually seen another IX in this color, and only a couple of other E30's. I drive the car 50 miles round trip to work every day. Here is the speil:
The Bad: The woman who owned it before me was rear ended and pushed into the car in front of her. The resulting damage is a crinkle in the right rear quarter and a dented hood and fender. This accident was over 40k miles ago, and there are no driveability issues with the car at all. Everything lines up fine. It would be wise to replace both front fenders as the drivers side has rust at the bottom, although a patch would probably do the trick anyway. The ABS, E Brake, A/C and cruise do not work.
The Good: Both rear wheel bearings have been replaced, as well as the timing belt and tie rod ends. I also had the right inner and outer CV boots done. All of those items were done by 3D auto, an amazing shop that only works on BMW's. www.3dautoworks.com . I did the basic tune up items myself: Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, K&N panel air filter. I always do my oil changes between 3k and 3500 miles, always with a new Mann Oil Filter. The interior is in great shape with no cracks on the dash or console. Seats have wear spots, but nothing terrible. I have 4 new BFGoodrich high performance tires mounted on the original rims. I also have 4 nearly new Nokian Hakkapellita Q snow tires mounted on steel wheels.
The stereo - a nice Kenwood with 4 nice Rockford Fosgate speakers. Everything is bolted into original mounting holes, I did not enlarge speaker holes or anything like that. I do have Satellite radio installed, but I will remove it and install it in my next car. I replaced all of the speaker wire when I did the radio as well.
All in all it is a fairly clean IX, and could be a perfect car with some bodywork.
